I was really looking at the Merlin but it says it's only rated up to 5 pounds. I heard some reports that with a little extra counterwiegth one could get it to work. Can one order any extra counterweights for the Merlin? Is there another solution for someone with an HVX200 who only wants to...
Ok, I recently tried exporting a 720 MXF files into my school's Avid. Their system is a P4 2.6 gHz with 1 gig of RAM and a 32 meg. Video card. Sadly, it ran pretty slowly.
At home I have a AMD Atholon 64 3200 with 1 gig of RAM and a 256 meg video card. Do you think I'll be able to edit the...

I'm wondering what a good tripod would be for the HVX200. The Cartoni Focus seems perfect but a basic package seems to start at 1100 and that's too much for me. The Action Pro looks good but I'm not sure if it can support a camera like the HVX200. For the record, I don't plan to ever use a M2...

Ok, this whole thing is really starting to bug me. Half the people see noise. Half don't. So how about this: For those of us that havn't seen any major noise, would you noise finders mind posting some of your worst offenders?
I know a lot of people love Magic Bullet for giving the "film-look" but does it really offer much that other post programs like After Effects or Combustion don't?
I'm going to buy an HVX200 soon but I can't find a recording option I like. The Firestore seems reliable but not having native recording is going to be a pain (I don't have to have to convert all the files before I use them). P2 store is fine but, as many have pointed out, 60gigs isn't much...
Recently RED and the SI-1920HDVR claim to offer really high resolutions using CMOS sensors. On the HVX200 board, I heard someone say that a CMOS looks way more like film.
Untill recently I had never heard of a CMOS chip. When I did hear about it, it was always as a cheap alternative to CCDs...
Ok, I've spouted my mouth of several times involving the fact that I've heard one pretty much has to use the XL H1 as a deck for capturing as its HDV tapes don't work with anyone else.
If this is the case, what options are there to get around this (besides spending upwards of 10k on a...
I've tried numerous times to play your footage but I keep encountering errors. Is there anyway you can stick some of it in H64? It would be especially useful since H64 has been what most people have been encoding their HVX200 footage in and would be great for comparison.
Funny story. A friend of mine was working on a documentary with a DVX100A and had another friend who had a JVCHD100b go ahead and shoot B-roll for him (in SD). We were freaked out that the JVC would look FAR better but, upon getting it into the machine, we found that the DVX100A's colors ended...
In the interrigation scenes in The Inside Man, the lighting is wonderful. It kind of reminds of me a technique in CGI called bloom lighting. It's striking in that not only are there brights that blow out and some dark blacks but, rather than having a lot of contrast that tends to come with...
Ok, I'm currently working on a project in Avid Xpress Pro HD 5.23. I shot it on the DVX100A in 24p. As this is the my last SD project before I move up to HD and there is such little resolution to work with, I'm trying to go ahead and get as much quality as I can.
There are several shots...
I recently upgraded to Avid Xpress Pro HD (5.23) but found something odd. As is my understanding, the HVX200 can shoot in pure, native 24 frames a second. However, when I have created a project file, the closest I can find is 720p 23.976. I realize I'm whining about a quarter of 1% of a frame...

I love the show but I swear, every time I watch it, it looks to me like it was shot digitally, closest to the DVX100 or maybe some lower grade HD camera. Anyone know?
