Did we ever come to a consensus what the best stabilization device was for the HVX?

I was really looking at the Merlin but it says it's only rated up to 5 pounds. I heard some reports that with a little extra counterwiegth one could get it to work. Can one order any extra counterweights for the Merlin? Is there another solution for someone with an HVX200 who only wants to spend between $500 and $800?

Best is the Flyer
For 500-800 it's the Merlin as long as you don't want to add any big accesories. Adding too mcuh extra weight isn't a good idea. I'd recomend just a small washer or so if you *have to*, but not any aditional normal Merlin weights.

mikko is right the best seems like the flyer, but if you want to shoot dolly-type shots and fluid shots right now Smooth Shooter is ur best bet. about $2k with the glidecam 4000 pro and you can achieve those shots right now. I use a Smooth Shooter and the HVX is perfect for it, ive put 2 vidled lights and all i had to adjust is one spring, so theres room for more stuff on top.

Does any one know if the Indicam Pilot is any good? (www.indicam.com)
Or how it compares to the Smooth Shooter?

also, is there any sort of arm and vest that attaches to the Merlin? or is it limited to handheld?

and what makes the Merlin the best of the $500-$800 handheld devices? is it noticably better than, say, the Glidecam 4000 or the Varisoom Flowpod?

Tried the Flowpod at NAB. Fine as a monopod, but the stabilizer part sucks as the gimble axies don't line up. Yugh..

Search the forum, you'll find loads of Merlin vs Glidecam comparisons.
