Petition

We should have a petition or a signature campaign to tell Nikon that they are doing everything wrong in regards to D-movie mode. Did someone do this allready?

Anyone know where we could or shoud contact them?

Don't even try, they are too proud to listen anyway. They didn't even look on the internet and find this forum. We just have to pray that the stupid manager in the video departement gets fired...

I'm going to probably decide between the red 2/3'' scarlet or the Nikon D700. Which ever one seems like the better deal and has the most advantages. D300s is pointless if you already have a D90, as they are virtually the same camera. And it's lame of Nikon not to release a firmware update for an unfinished feature that they advertise as a selling point. Where are the full manual controls? Red and Cannon I guess... :/

If you're wanting a camera that shoots video then Scarlet will be your choice no doubt about that. When that camera will be here God only knows. I think Nikon made it clear today that they are a stills company and video is an afterthought. This is short sighted on their part but whatever, it's not my company, not worth getting worked up about. There are other options out there.

I just don't get this camera at all. I mean sure, when the D90 was announced then drop this one on us at the same time as the "pro" version but not a year later with almost the same specs. It could be because I'm a video guy but what does this camera offer over the D90 on the stills end of things to justify coming to the party a year late and costing almost twice as much? Resolution is the same, it doesn't appear to have increased sensitivity, ummmm... someone help me out here...

It has a lot the d90 doesnet, in regards to stills. I'm sure the image quality is superior allthough the resolution and iso is the same. The AF is far superior, it's much faster 7fps, has more advanced exposure aids and so on.

That's why the video mode is such a disapointment. This is supposed to be pro/enthusiast camera and thus it would make sense that the video mode was allso more advanced than the one found on the consumer/amateur model D90.

I have to agree, Nikon is not getting the new markets out there at all. Video is replacing stills in so many medias, and continues to do so.

I'm going to curl up in the corner and cry for a while, get it out of my system, get up and start working on Plan B. It seems Nikon "FAILED" big time. Their D.Movie marketing is nothing more than cruel hype at this point.

At least my D90 will hold value now...

No reason to drop complete hope in Nikon yet. The D700 successor will be the real indicator. I don't think many on this forum actually expected too much from the D300s.

If you need something to shoot with, with manual controls, you can get a 5D mark ii pretty cheaply for rent. No reason to buy into Canon just yet, when new products are around the corner from a whole bunch of companies.

My Favs... Feel the same

Kinda a let down.
I have a sinking feeling...
it's as if we didn't exist. such a shame..
You've gotta hand it to Nikon they're really good at repackaging the same old shi*e
This is incredibly stupid. Nikon really doesn't have a clue. :Drogar-Smoke(DBG): I'm just going to bang my head against the desk here for awhile...

I always thought, in terms of the stills side, that all the updates of the DSLR since the d100, d70 were negligible in capable hands.

Sure we now have twice as many megapixels and less noise, but are photos really better now than they were 6 years ago?

Seems it's the same for the video side too. Bah. Maybe we expect too much.

Oh, and I also emailed Ned from Pentax about the K-7 too :)
Anyone know any insiders contacts for Nikon and their D-MOVIE?

Who said anything about Canon? The d700 is a $3K body. I'll probably w8 it out with a GH1 and get an adapter for my Nikon primes. Unlimited record time, manual control, lots of neat video features. I don't look forward to dealing with AVCHD (I don't want to have to upgrade my pooter) but I hope transcoding to something I can edit will be a workable solution.

Like I said, Plan B...need to start thinking in terms of it and see what develops.

My advice is if you don't have any serious shooting to do wait until october for the D700s and see if Nikon move to H.264 and 1080p as rumored. If you have to get something now then get a MKII, the pictures are amazing like you can reach into the screen and touch them and Hudson's hacked firmware is just getting better and better.

Get your **** together Nikon!

With the D90 when I go to video it doesn't matter what "Mode" I'm in. D-Movie does what it wants, it's basically fully auto. The D300s specs says that "Mode" has an effect on D-Movie. This is new. So if I'm in "M" mode with a D300s does D-Movie respect the mode setting? Are the setting values in the LCD reflecting the actual D-movie settings?

I do find it irritating that the Pentax K20 has full manual controls, and is better quality than the 5D, but it's only 21fps. Whereas the updated Pentax K-7 has 30fps but no manual controls.

Whut up Pentax?? WHUT?

I would like to nominate as "Profound Comment of 2009": (paraphrased) "Everything I want in a VDSLR exists today...just not in the same camera".
