Blackout-Powell Native 24p Patch - GH1 FTW!!!

Yes, as deduced per checked/unchecked; however, I tried because of the desire for 422 and 1920x810. So is the conclusion correct, i.e. that some anamorphic lenses can have both but 1.33x isn't in that party and can't be thus offering a new parameter for anamorphic lens selection? Also, anyone with thoughts on Max Lat AVCHD with greenscreen? It's decision time!

4:2:2 color depth significantly increases the amount of MJPEG data stored in each line of the image. This makes the MJPEG encoder more likely to fail under stress. With a wide anamorphic frame, the largest frame size I've found to be reliable in 4:2:2 color is 1920x720. Frame sizes larger than this should use 4:2:0 color depth.

lpowell, I just ran into the 4GB problem with this patch and I was wondering if any of the new ptool features could be applied to this patch to improve the likelihood that it would be able to cross the 4GB boundary with more luck. I've been having very good luck with this patch otherwise and love the video it produces. If I can get by this last one issue, it would be perfect!

Thanks,
Phil

So does that mean you can't record a clip longer than 20 minutes or so with this hack?

With Version 1 of this hack, yes, this was true. I just installed Version 2 of this hack and did a test that was successful. Hopefully the changes made solve the 4GB problem. I'll keep trying and report back if I run into any problems.

File spanning only fails on high-bitrate material, so if you're filming 20 minutes of leaves blowing in the wind, you're correct, but if you're interviewing someone, you should be able to go much longer.

lpowell and blackout, thanks for your effort to find out this nice setting. I appriciate it.
By the way, on this blackout patch, shooting in SH mode tends to fail by write speed error, nevertheless it is a dark night seane with some streetlight, where I have never met the error before.

+1 on SH failures, me too. The files are always recoverable but they still failed.

Hacked for the first time. Used this patch. Shot wide very detailed field of grass and trees with pans. No crash. Static shot of field of grass and trees with a dog running across the frame...crash. Then, static medium shot of bush...larger leaves (not millions of tiny blades of grass as with previous shot)...crash multiple times. Hmmmm....

bummer. try a faster card, or another patch. the high reliability patch does not look bad-and for most people it is all they will ever need.
using this hack with the sandisk extreme III 30mb/sec 16gb card-no problems here.
this is a situation where "one patch does not fit all situations". also, try the 100mb patch, or the 75mb/sec peak performance patch. try all the patches, and repeat what you just shot, that caused the crash, and find the patch that does not crash. if they all crash-get another memory card, and repeat.

havasuphot,

Thanks for the tips. I'm using a Sandisk extreme III 30 mb/sec class 10 16 gig card. I'll try other patches and see what works. Any other cards worth trying? Transcend?

No, just stick with the Sandisk extreme III 30mb/sec cards. and, buy them from a reputable dealer like b&h or adorama. lots of fake cards out there. don't get the super-high speed sdxc cards-don't need them-waste of money. and don't make the mistake and buy the sandisk extreme III video sd card-it's the one, that if you look closely, says 20bm/sec on it, and says video on it.
class 10 is a minimum of 10mb/second, but, that can be a combined read/write speed.
i've heard of people having all sorts of problems with all sorts of cards, but the sandisk extreme III. sure, the new sdxc are much faster, but i wouldn't waste any money on them, as you don't need it.
if i remember correctly(which probably isn't likely), i thought 133x was only really class 6.

havasuphto,

Thanks again. I just checked my card. It's a Sandisk extreme (no III), but it's 30 mb/sec, class 10. B&H doesn't sell the extremeIII. I remember buying it at B&H and there were two seemingly identical cards at slightly different prices. They're both discontinued now (I bought them 1 month ago). I linked to them below. They seem identical. Different B&H product number. Can you tell if they are actually different?

Now B&H only sells the one that says "HD Video" on it.

Well that's a bummer. That's the one I bought, last month-lucky me. The one that says Video on it, is only 20mb/sec. Still above class 10-but not the same performance as 30mb/sec.
Guess the next best thing to do is get the SDXC cards, which is what the card manufacturers are forcing us to do, but discontinuing their older performance cards.

Patch went from very stable too unusable????

Patch went from very stable too unusable????

I can't figure it out anymore, please see attached video and the settings I used. Filmed entire holiday in May, not one error. Filmed in all conditions, day & night camera never had a glitch with the patch using Pc-bell's modifications and FPN noise breakthrough. The 1080p prores is spectacular on an 42" LCD monitor. Had a wedding two weeks ago and had sporadic failures, now the FHD fails constantly even using better cards. I'm sorry that I'm not as technical as so many here so I am unable to provide any hard data for analysis. Just don't know why it stopped being so stable.

You could try formating the card first in a PC and then in the camera, this will give you a clean card and no fragmentation.

Also you shot the previous footage in Vibrant Mode, which appears to be less demanding on the encoder from my tests probably due to crushed blacks and duller highlites. Were these new clips shot in a brighter mode like Smooth or Nostalgic?
