to t2i owners

hi all , new to hd and dslr, if i can track one down im thinking of getting the T2i
with the kit lens tomorrow , i have a question regarding file sizes

how much hi def 1080 footage can i record to a 16gb card
ive seen different figures and would love the definitive answer

thanks and have a great day

The maximum uninterrupted straight shot without pausing is from what I gathered 12 minutes. After that it stops and you have to press record again for more 12 minute clips. This is ONE MAJOR FLAW about the camera as I have found out. You cannot CONTINUALLY shoot for say a clip of 33 minutes. It sucks as if you go and shoot a wedding ceremony that needs an hour continuous or else tyou will have gaps in the recording. Too bad. The camera is fine as long as the max clip lenghts are 12 minutes or less regardless of media card size. Correct me if I'm wrong. his is the ONLY reason I am NOT buying it. Canon has it like that because it markets the camera as a photo device and not as a camcorder capable, or else it faces the camcorder guideline taxes. I am just patiently waiting for that file size limit is lifted.

Lets be serious, this is really not a problem and you are truly reaching. If you are creating a Wedding Video for someone it will be edited. GH1 lets you record till the card blows up so go buy that camera if that is all you care about.

Does GH1 have 1080p at 30FPS ??

No, 24fps 1080p and 60fps 720p

According to Canon:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/c...ategoryid=139&modelid=19943#ModelTechSpecsAct

Its 12min/4GB at 1080p. Where are you getting your numbers?

I stand corrected since I owned the GH1 that was the 2 Hour time limit for 1080p. The T2i is less compressed ( higher bit rate vs Gh1) therefore uses more space. I was wrong and thank you for pointing that out . ( I will do some test later to be 100% sure)

This would imply bitrate of about 17 Mbit/s. The 5D and 7D have bitrate about 45-48 Mbit/s. It was reported that the 2Ti has the same bitrate as the 7D.

Thanks for the correction.

16gb = 2 hrs of footage
First, you cannot put the equation sign between bytes and hours. Second, your "equation" would imply bitrate of about 17 Mbit/s. The 5D and 7D have bitrate about 45-48 Mbit/s. It was reported that the 2Ti has the same bitrate as the 7D.

EDIT: I see that you have the GH1. The thread was about the T2i, which has different bitrate.

well if its 2 hours for a 16gb card thats awesome
if its is only 48 minutes , not quite as awesome,so be it
i still really want this camera, ive been obssessed with vimeo and looking at 7d footage and if its as good, im sold

Too bad, that's why I didn't go and buy that one also. Is 1080p 30fps continuous a technological impossibility ?I know the answer, and part of it is in the marketing end of it. They dangle a carrot in front of you and let you taste it a little at a time. Of course they can make such a camera, only how will it be hurting their vid camera sales. I'll wait for the T3i..

I like to see the expression of the bride when you tell the priest to pause the ceremony in order to reload.

It frustrates me too BUT in all honesty, the t2i on paper SHOULD NOT EXIST in the first place. It has manual features, it has all the shooting modes you could possibly want, and it records on cheap SD cards. Oh and it's dead simple to get gorgeous video right out of the box.

It just amazes me how ANYONE can be pissed at Canon for releasing such an awesome camera for $800.

I say keep it coming. I want to see Nikon, Sony, Pentax, Olympus, Panny, etc all have a T2i level camera at the same price point or better. Lets get these features into the minds of the consumer that they are standard.

Dslr is obviously not for you, for the last time please leave as you bring nothing good here. There are many work ways to work around the 4gb file limit, your brain and way of thinking will never see this though.

Some people in life see the Glass half Empty, while I and many others see it as Half Full

peace

OK ! I will post no more, untill I get hold of a no file limit size 1080P 30fps. whenever that will happen. I would laugh if it falls below 500 bucks.

everyone's been cranky lately. the t2i came out like a minute ago....the "t3i" will not be the answer. because there is no t3i. but keep waiting if you want. the rest of us will enjoy our file size limits.
