3rd Los Angeles HVX200 User Group Meeting

Hey DC,
Still need a projector, I can ask a friend if I can borrow his. :)

Yes, please! :) I can bring a screen. See you there at 10am to set up.

Oh, and Vitello's is certainly a possibility for dinner.

YES!

I just came back from Indie Dolly with one of their dollies :))))... I am about to unpack it right now and see how it all fits together... I am excited.

Do you guys want me to bring it to the meeting?

Ok DC,

Just got the ok to bring the PROJECTOR, but I'm warning everyone right now, I'm the only one allowed to operate it. (Not being a jerk, its just that its not mine, and that was requested of me and I understand.) Thanks to Emanuel Agarez from Portugal for letting us use his projector. He is a DVXuser & Reduser. I'm just holding his gear.

Also, I'll pick up the screen from my mom's place. and I'll bring some stands to hold the screen.

Someone has to either bring the laptop or the DVD player or such. If you want to know what kind of inputs it has, let me know and I'll double check.

Faith,

sorry I didn't call back. as for the dolly, not sure if people want to see it. i would but I'd hate to ask you to bring so much stuff. :)

Sounds good to me, thanks. We can set it up in the garage for use after the vendor presentations. Most of the meeting should ideally take place in the back yard (it's a nice house in the Studio City Hills). Park on the street. I have access to a DVD player.

Everyone please bring your $10 cash donation. This is to "thank" the owner of the house for supplying the location plus snacks and drinks.

It's up to Faith. :)

I want to see the dolly!
I would love to see how stable it is when sitting down, how easy it is to get up , pan... I want to use it! :D

Good to know we have a projector. I don't know if I will bring my short though... it isn't CC'ed yet, not till I can borrow a monitor.

Busy weekend! Folks are coming to town and toddlers to entertain!

However, if it's all right with you, I'll stop by for a bit if a window opens up at naptime!

Should I bring my laptop with OnLocation? We used it for a couple weekends at a lighting class I had and it is going to be part of my body from this point forward.

Mike

OK, I'll bring the dolly too. i will not bring my 24" monitor. My production assistant Daniel will help me load / unload all the stuff so I should be OK.

Since I do not have shims for the dolly yet, it might e best to set-it up on levelled hard surface, a room, garage or concrete patio.

See if you can plan for it. I will need 6 feet length minimum to set-it up. If you guys want to really see it in action, then I cann setup all 12 feet, if there is room for it.

PLEASE DO NOT WALK ON THE TRACKS OR TRACKS SPACER BARS. It messes them up. Also I will ask that noone climb or sit on the dolly unless I am there to show them how to properly sit and where to place their feet, or they might damage the dolly's platform area. And if you break it, you buy it ($1,800 OUCH ) Thank you guys.

DOES ANYONE HAVE A FOLLOW FOCUS ? if so please bring it I want to try some, especially the red rock one.

I will set up the HVX200 + letus extreme and lense + 416 shotgun + nebteck monitor on my tripod and put the tripod on the dolly this way it will be all in one spot. I would love to test one or more follow focus with that set-up, thank you!

A FF is my next purchase and I have never used or tried one before. :embarasse I hope you guys can bring some.

Great, looking forward to seeing everyone who can make it. :) Space is somewhat limited so we'll have to make do.

I want to personally thank everyone that came out today. YOU are what makes these events so great. We had a nice turnout with plenty of gear to play with.

I'm planning another for early spring. Stay tuned!

Well, just got home and I have to say THANK YOU DC. and Thank you everyone else for coming. It was a pleasure meeting everyone and seeing the Usual Suspects. :)

DC. please thank Kahy once again for hosting.

Thank YOU, Luis, for bringing EVERYTHING but your VHS-C camcorder. :) Kathy loved you guys. And I'll get back at you about what we were talking about . . .

Guys I had a blast! It was so much fun doing test footage with the dolly, and pushing Roberto... I wish I had more time to actually check other people's gear more... But I had my hands full.

The side by side comparison we made between the RR and the LetusX adapters was very helpful. It's funny how no adapter has it all, each have their strong points and downfalls...

Kathy was such a doll! I really enjoyed her warm home and fireplace as well as the wine! We left around 7PM. I will come back soon and take her for a ride in my 32. Her house looks so 1955, I am going to have to use it in one scene of the film !!

OK, I hope to see everyone soon again. I think it would be real fun to do a test scene together. Not just look at gear but actually film one scene together and combine all our gears together (like my dolly, Robertos' lights, Luis's crane and steady cam) to film a scene. I am sure Daniel, our very own French model / actor, will be more than happy to volunteer his dashing good looks for us to practice with. David maybe you could DP it and give us tips on lighting? I think that would be a lot of fun.

What do you guys think?

DC,
No problem, it was my pleasure. Please do keep in touch. and come January we will be building together. :)

Faith,
That sounds like a great idea. But I think people's time and involvement will have to be an issue. Perhaps the thing to do is to set up a very simple scene and have a few groups attempt the scene. Or the same people in different roles. this way everyone feels like they are getting something out of it. One time yes, you might be the grip, but the next time you will be the DP.
Maybe we can make a weekend out of it? (again time restrictive.)

Cordvision,
I hear you about the gear. I want more too. :)
Hey, I took a look at your difference video, and really liked it. I was thinking that the 1st guy could have the blood spilled into the screen and it could slide of the screen in the same dirrection as the guy. then the girl could have the pills roll on to the white and have the floor slide to the left. Then the hanging guy could have the rope being cut fall on the floor from above and again slide off. And the last guy could blow smoke into the screen and it slide off. (or maybe not slide off this time) just leave the smoke hanging on the screen. maybe even let the screen fill up with smoke and hold it even longer. :) (I know you are done with that project and this is probably the wront time to mention this, but just thought of it and figure why not.)

hey Siniarch,

Thanx for the ideas :-) We actually filmed the thing with the blood and it looked quite nice. We used compressed gas to splatter it all over the "screen" but decided not to use it in the end because it was just too brutal...

Deuceofspades,
Do not get the wrong adapter, it was a SGPro and not a Redrock even though the Redrock might render a similar image...
