Spike... latest render

New inside of a Battle Regalie.........

1) May we playback from the RED REDCODE 4K from RED Raid Drive directly from RED one body to be connected to " On-set larger High-res LCD monitors " in a Shooting Studio. Sharp has a 4K LCD Monitor in 65" !!!

2) Clip Thumbnail / MetaData Function on 1280 x 720 LCDs ?

3) Shot marker Function ( like the one in P2 viewer etc. ) ?

4) may I ? It will be good to me to have more " Communications" between ( RED ) or any B4 mount HD Broadcast Zoom Lenses and RED one camera body.

I am dreaming to make " one magic zoom or long duration shot " with preseted user settings of parameters ( e.g Frame rates, shutter speed, details level, black, color or video gains and F.Stops controls etc. )

e.g 5-30mm ( details +5 ) then 30-80mm ( details -5 ) in one smooth shot etc. Same to apply to others as well ( Apertures / Zoom speed etc. )

I will be good to save some " Post works " and " DI " kind of processings within own our workflows.

Will the RED one holders to spend their $ in the Post houses which charge you few hunderd USD per hour on their Quantel / Autodesk's Discrete Logic / DVS's Clipser / or any DI's suites ?

4K to anything of DI works at home will happen in 2007 ?

My example like in making Music or " King Tone " of the guitar sounds ( Jimi Hendrix added many effects to make his unquie character - one of a kind of magic guitar tone in the very beginnings ) Can we make the same in applying those Artistic touch in the 1st stage as well.

Engineers are Engineers, Scientists are Scientists, Artists are different and sometime can be a Technical Artist who know Technologies to create their own Artistic way of looks as well.

I like Spike serious and sturdy industrial design but would like to see it with EVF and LCD in place. Is it possible at all and soon enough?

Now I can concentrate on other things :) With my
wee bit of OCD, I was wondering what this new iteration of the camera looked like.

About the render - I know it's a rough one, but I assume those are telescoping rods ? Also, some of those buttons look pretty small, IMO...We don't see the other side, but when I was looking through some cams the other day, I noticed a good idea about making the plane of the connections slightly angled so the connections were angled to go back on a slant which I suppose minimized stress from them being straight and then curved back (just thought I'd mention it). You'd might not want to do that, thoguh, depending on changing the sleekness...

I know Jared mentioned all the outputs are live (as long as the recorder is equal to the signal). So, does that mean we could record simultaneously to the Flash and the RED mini-RAID (4K redcode) ? That might be a decent backup option when you're on a semi-stable platform...

I'm diggin' the design (although I mostly like the sleek stylie). It's sort of 'ugly-beautiful'. If you're making your dream camera, we have to expect your imprimatur on it. And it ain't half bad :) As we say, Spike is a comer.

Can i grab the camera with one hand? How?

Very cool design. I love it. It´s a mixture between the marine´s guns from Aliens and the Predator´s shoulder laser. Perfect.

you can bolt a top handle to the camera, if you look at the top there is a couple mounting points for it.

LOL! I read the whole thread and that was the only thing I could think about!

It's looking REALLY good, but that lens, my friend, is not a prime... :)

OK... it is an imaginary lens. I guess we quickly modeled up something to add to the render and took some liberties. We can't slip ANYTHING by you guys!

User info and controls

User info and controls

Its been mentioned in a few other threads how the user info screen and controls on the back of the camera would be a bit awkward. Every camera I have worked with has had these features on the "camera smart side" (camera operators side). I always encourage my focus pullers to take a quick look at the T-stop, FPS, Shutter etc. before calling "speed on camera" every time we roll. Having the info screen and adjustment controls on the back would make this difficult and I could see it becoming a complaint point on the camera for many users.

Could someone on the RED team answer if it would be possible to put these features on the camera smart side? Maybe I am missing something and that info will be viewable and programable from the camera smart side?

With this configuration, it doesn't look like you can ever see the back LCD panel and buttons head on... the battery and drives are directly behind it, so you're always looking at it from a 30 to 45 degree off-axis angle. I know that everything is movable and reconfigurable, it just seems to "box in" the controls with this configuration...

Also, I can't really make out how simple it will be to make adjustments to rod length, handle angles, etc. At the moment it looks as if everything is allen head screw attached... I'd kinda like to see some big honkin' adjustment knobs on those handle extentions.

I just want a record buttom on the right hand, handle of the red rails. Otherwise i think the difficulty of quickly grabbing the camera and pressing record AND then going to focus takes too long for an average skilled person to do quickly. Red must accomodate this if it is to compete against the might of Sony XDCAM HD Cam.

Michael

I am not sure that the RED is shooting for a camera to compete against sony ENG style cameras, it seems to be much more of a small and large production camera then an ENG one. Although I am pretty sure I read somewhere that Jim said a remote on/off would be available and that some companies would probably come out with a on/off hand grip.

Hmm.. Cool battery. V-mount, stackable, with a battery meter on the top left side.. My IDX V10 batteries come to mind.

I'm going to throw out a guess that that is another "artistic licence" used to create this render? Or is RED going to make (or perhaps re-brand?) it's own batteries? If so, props on using V-mount.

I also agree with the comment about LCD and controls placement. Other than that, I like it.

The controls on the rear are a compromise between a lot of factors. There are options for additional controls placed wherever you want.

Jim

Also, one doesn't have to attach the battery and RED-Drive pointing up. They could just as easily be pointing down, leaving plenty of room for operating the controls.

Or am I missing something?

Jim, are you now able to confirm what accessories will be available and can be purchased when the camera body ships?

TIA

..I'm actually really interested in the battery Jim. Is that something you will be making or just a part of this picture? (Which is totally fine by me, I just wanna know)

Thanks for getting back on this Jim. I can understand how putting together the camera at the weight, size and price point your aiming for would result in some compromises along the way. As long as the 1st AC has the ability to view at a quick glance the camera user bit information while shooting with a camera Op beside him and is able to change fps, shutter looks and a few other things without having to get the operator to step aside or climb around behind him. If the camera can accomplish that I think a lot of the complaints would be kept to a minimum.

Can we have a V-Wedge of the bottom ( RED one body ) to use ENG type of Tripod Adaptor for quick release function ? Can the RED 's EVF be adjusted in a XY positions ? Rotary ring lock ?

A remote LCD control panel (in addition) could be a handy thing don't you think. Anyone?

As long as it doesn't drive the cost up, it's all good. Optional accessories are always welcome, and I'm sure a lot of folks would find an optional detachable control panel very useful.
