Spike... latest render

Not to be picky, but it looks like the handles on the left side might hit your head or block some of the view.
Hi Sumfun,

Each of the four handles are individually (re)movable, so you can have as few or as many as you like attached to the body at any one time depending on your needs. Also, as Jim has pointed out, the accessories will be available as individual pieces so you can start small and build your way up. All part of the modular, upgradable approach! :)

Also. This render seems to demonstrate some of the things that have changed.
It might not be a preferable configuration. For handheld you might want to skip the cage and add the top handle and the EVF...

Haakon is correct. Each piece shown can be added or deleted as you require. It is not likely it will ever be used with everything attached at once. More renders soon that show just the body and more useful configurations.

If I'm not mistaken (though these things change all the time), you either connect the optical port unit or the onboard flash unit (perhaps what you thought was the "blank cover?") to the side of the camera

Oh, no worries, I know. I just half expected a third attachment to be available... just a port-protecting cover for use with the mini RAID. That's why I was so surprised when I saw the optical RAW port on the camera with the drive on the back... it struck me that maybe something had changed.

Personally, I'd like to be able to keep my optical RAW adapter safe in a case when it's not being used.
Of course that begs the question, if both the flash unit and the mini-RAID are connected, how do you tell the camera which one to use/whether you want to use them both/etc. I think the GUI is going to have to have some pretty crazy menus/options given all of the different formats and media it can record - but knowing the RED team's standard of excellence, that's actually the thing I am still looking forward to the most! :)
I can't wait to see the UI.

Just for face-saving reasons, I'm aware of all the current configurations, storage options, output options, etc... the rendering just made me curious to see if anything had changed.

I'm really looking forward to more renderings. At some point I'd love to see the full body progression in rendering form... one next to the other... so we can really see how far it's come.

Jim, I seem to remember the red buttons are start/stop buttons. It's hard to see but are they secure from accidental activation (maybe by extruding the flanges around them.

Is there a button on one of the handgrips?

Jim, will the cage enable me to use 15mm rods or 19mm rods? Because I'd like to go ahead and get a matte box lined up. Btw, Spike looks awesome!! Hmmm, I wonder if this means I'll need to give my Red #27 a name... :)

one of my favorite things is the battery.. its great to see a little design finally in even the usually boring things like power.

«Don't let anybody say you're not a caring man, Jim.» Where have I coming to hear this? This design (and specs) is (are) not only the Jim's camera, it is ours too. That's the RED's secret.

You have the option of using 19mm, 15mm studio or 15mm lite rods. We have a provision for remote operation. I'm sure someone will make a control handle.

Jim

I assume the red band on the lens comes down for a bridge plate on the rods to support the lens? How heavy is the 300mm expected to be and how heavy will the zoom be?

The zoom is supposed to be <7lbs.

Forgive me if I'm just having another coffeeless moment, but why are there three geared rings on the 300mm prime? Aperture, focus... what's the third?

Brook, I think Jim said it was a 300mm, not prime so I'd assume its zoom... in which case its probably zoom for the last gear.

The 300mm lens is a prime (as that is its only focal length). :)

LOL! I read the whole thread and that was the only thing I could think about!

It's looking REALLY good, but that lens, my friend, is not a prime... :)

The render clearly shows a zoom lens, as the middle gear ring has markings on it from 75mm to 200mm, but of course that isn't the 18-85mm we've ordered.... so I'm with gunleik in that Red probably has a second, longer zoom in the works (which is great, covers the other half of most zoom ranges and could provide almost an entire camera kit between the two of them!). The plot thickens.... :)

Can i grab the camera with one hand? How?

Very cool design. I love it. It´s a mixture between the marine´s guns from Aliens and the Predator´s shoulder laser. Perfect.
