iPhone

The iPod was not revolutionary was it? I mean, there were many other MP3 players. Lots with better sound quality, bigger HDDs, etc. etc. The iPhone is in a similar boat. It is about integration and ease of use. I am selling my HTC TYTN Hermes supernerd phone because the iPhone is just easier, no hassle, ready to go, right click>sync, etc. The HTC TYTN prolly does MORE than the iPhone but it is not as convenient or intuitive.

In theory, Windows can do a lot more with XP... there are many more hardware options on PC as well... those factors are easily trumped by ease of use, form factor and a good dose of marketing.

ash =o)

I don't get what the excitement is over this phone. It promotes being able to do anything, like watch movies, yet has an 8gb hard drive?? It promotes being able to do everything on the internet, yet internet speed is worse than dial-up. It promotes its ease of functionality, yet it has a touch-screen keyboard. Maybe the most annoying attribute ever if you're a big texter. And on top of all that, Apple is ripping you off with a humongous price tag (apple?? ripping people off??? what???).

You need to wait a few generations for this thing to figure these problems out. Cause right now, it's not figured out.

How can Apple stick their customers with a phone that has a non-user-replacable battery. This is disgraceful and a disservice to customers.

At least with an IPod you can do without music, but to not be able to carry an extra battery for those busy days is terrible. Plus the extortion fee you pay to have Apple change the battery.

I so dont want to be an apple/iphone defender...cause i dont really give a sh*t...use whatever phone, mp3/video player you want...

but, the excitement is everything that you just stated...whats not to get? 8 gigs is plent of space for a lot of people...worse then dialup? im using it now and can tell you that its fast...especialy with wi-fi...and the edge network has gotten a speed increase over the past few days....the iphones functionality IS easy. Big price tag...sure...but imo you are getting alot for that price.

Its cool, it works, its fun...

pcascio- there is this cool little thing out now called a battery charger...you plug it into your phone and it charges its...they even make portable ones that you can use in your car. :P

I don't care what anybody says ...this phone, while far from perfect, is revolutionary as a whole.

After spending a few hours with mine, I'm just blown away by how thoughtful a product it is. There's no manual, because you just don't need it. The phone seems to respond in a completely intuitive manner, at least for me.

If you're trashing the phone and haven't had a chance to actually play with one for a long period of time, you're missing out.

On the flip side, nobody needs this phone, but then again we don't need 90% of what we have as it is.

the iphone seems like a really cool concept, but i doubt there will be a time when i'm standing at a street corner and think to myself, "you know what, i really need to see some footage of a bulldog skateboarding right now".

on second thought, that actually that doesn't sound that bad. i headed to youtube...

Ah, sweet serendipity...My wife informed me ruefully a few hours ago that my cell phone had gone through the wash.

Why don't you get an iPhone to replace it, she says.

How can I pass up a tacit seal of spousal approval for a groovy new gadget?

In and out of the Apple store in 10 minutes and just typed this up on the thing...Can't find nary a fault with it. The iPhone is awesome.

Guess like all things mac - we will just have to wait in Japan. I do have a question though. In the US everyone uses the hands free function on the phone - while they hold it. Is there a benefit to this?

some people don't want to hold the cell phone up to their ears because they are afraid of getting brain tumors.

I read the review over at HD4ND and you can't even put in your own ring tone or shoot video with it. WTF? Suddenly I'm less than impressed.

I don't expect the ringtone thing to last very long. in the new version of iTunes, there is a new "ringtone.GIF" file laying low for a future update.
