iPhone

Did anyone else pick up an iPhone today?

I got mine a couple of hours ago and so far I'm loving it. This is the first time I've ever been able to surf the web on a phone and actually enjoy the experience.

I went and visited a friend who was standing in line for one. He still hasn't called me yet and they went on sale over 3 1/2 hours ago. Of course, he does have to go home to activate it. And he was probably #160 in line. Can't wait to see his as it's as close as I'll get for a while.

I walked by the apple store at about 6:30 and there were easily still 300 people in line, so I grabbed dinner and came back at 7:30. At that point there were only about 50 people in line and I got my phone in under 30 minutes. Activation at home took less than 5. Very cool.

not to pee on your parade but you can surf the "real" internet just like on the iPhone with ANY cell phone for free using OperaMINI so like with everything else Apple's claims of being better are slightly exadurated:

Oh, and the Prada phone has a full touch screen, more functionality, third-party applications AND is not tied to AT&T until the end of time.

ah cool find on opera mini
my GF and I just updgraded to PDA type phones.

I made my first post from my blackjack yesterday and was surfing DVXuser while waiting for some food at a take out place tonight.

You have to get a 2 year contract but you can get these PDA phones refurbed from ATT for $0 - $50 dollars - got my blackjack for just $50.

Surfing DVXuser was fairly easy / readable on the blackjack as is, should be pretty cool with opera mini - had no idea about that.

So with my $50 phone I can play MP3's, movies, download stuff, and surf real webpages on a 3G connection. Love the look and feel of the iphone but I think I can wait until they come down in price.

The price is definitely a little crazy.

However, the interface and the synergy between all the apps is pretty incredible.

And as krestofre said, dvxuser.com looks great on the screen and is easy to navigate.

yeah I was just thinking about that after I posted
the screen on my blackjack is the size of a yellow post it note.
So obviously some of the big factors iphone has over other phones which can surf real sites are
1- interface
2- screen size - a movie would be very different on the iphone than my blackjack
3- integration of all the apps
4 - synergy as you put it or ease of use between all the apps

what else?

What's the storage like on those things, Can it replace my 40 gig video ipod altogther?

The fact that they went with ATT which has abysmal service was a non-starter for me. The fact that the EDGE surfing experience can be slow as a dog didn't help either.

My provider Verizon, which has the best network, turned Apple down when Apple listed all of the requirements for an exclusive service deal.

Opera mini sucks compared to just using internet explorer on my blackjack.
Yeah everything fits on the screen but it is stupid slow and has to ask for permission to connect to each new page. I would much rather scroll around the full size pages.

So opera mini + blackjack is not even as good as blackjack by itself, let alone iphone.

they were out when I got to the store. I ordered one online, but the guy at the AT&T store said that they should have some new 8gigs tomorrow. They had 4gigs, but what good would that be.

The edge service is slow, but the iPhone has built in wi fi which is extremely fast.

I have a 40 gig ipod and now i'm going to see if I can get by with the 8 gig iPhone. I have about 60gigs of music on my apple so I never carried it all around with me anyway.

picked up an iPhone today as well. only waited in line (with the rest of the lemmings) at the Beverly Center for about 45 minutes (7pm to 7:45pm). I was surprised it wasn't a three hour ordeal, to be honest. bought the 8GB. love the interface. no way this will replace my 60gb ipod. transferred my existing cell number so i can't receive calls on it until monday. :(

JDS - iPhone doesn't work with AT&T's 3G network, only EDGE. hopefully that will change in the near future.

wow, when I first got my blackjack a couple of weeks ago, I could barely get reception because ATT did not have enough of the 3G network in place, and the blackjack constantly hunts back and forth between Edge and 3G.

This week it magically started working great and I had assumed it was because ATT scrambled to get all their 3G support in place to meet the forthcoming iphone demand and that my reception would start to suck again once everyone got their iphones.

So that's good news for me at least

Not having the iphones on 3G seems almost intentional, so they can sell the newer faster models next year.

Or could be that ATT didn't have the 3G support in place for all the demand the bazillions of iphones will create, just like they didn't for the 3G phones they already had out until just recently.
