Dell 2405 monitor and mac

I heard that the 2405 monitors are great for HD video. Is it possible to use the 2405 monitors on a mac? I'm interested because they are cheaper than the cinema displays.

Incredible Monitor for the Mac. HVX looks great and even though it's big.. not too bad to move around on location.

cinealta. THe big storm case works nicely for the monitor. Also enough room for all your cables, connectors, and rigging stuff. Has great latches, wheel and handle. THe monitor is so easy to set up and it definitely has a WOW factor to the image.. especially given the price. Barry was so right on this one and I'm glad I checked it out here first before buying.

Just had a quick question for you guys with a Dell 2405. When I connect the HVX with the componet cables and play the footage back, it looks like crap. What set up are you guys using for watching stuff in the field?

Calibrating

Calibrating

I asked this question a long while ago, but no answer. Here it goes again.

I do have the DELL 2405, yet I am not 100% satisfied with the results. I would like to calibrate it as much as possible (since I use it for monitoring and color correction), but I know it can't be done in the same way as you would do it with a CRT (color bars, blue gun, pluge etc)

Can anyone give me a method of approximately calibrating the Dell 2405 as it WOULD be a CRT monitor? To insure proper levels, colors and so on.

My setup: G5 with Decklink HD card, from the card component out to a CRT monitor, also from the card through HD-SDI to HDLink and then to Dell 2405. Bottom line, the Dell and the CRT are not giving me the same image and I would like to match them as much as possible.

Suggestions from people who tried before?

Thanks!

That is the only real draw back to the monitor. It doesn't have much of a capability to calibrate at all. I'm pretty much only able to bring down the brightness when I'm hooked up to the DVI port.. and when I"m using the component input, I think it's just brightness and sharpness that I'm able to adjust.

I think for critical color correction and overall pleasing image, it's been suggested several times that a CRT is the best choice. A heavy CRT isn't such a bad thing in the studio. I've seen them for a 1000-1500 .

http://www.stormcase.com/

I ended up finding the case that would work: 2975 for the Dell and found a local dealer through Ebay. I picked it up with no tax and no shipping for 175. They have a great one for the HVX as well for like 120.

Hope this helps. I think there are so so so much nicer and cheaper then the Pelican cases. The latches are not knuckle breakers at all

Is it possible to use this monitor on location as a field monitor? If so, how do you keep it powered?

Great monitors. I have two and they're amazing IMHO!! The height adjustment on these can really save your back for long projects and the card slots and extra USB's are a nice add-on.

I can't wait to get a couple of 30's. :)

Does anyone know if you can use the dell 2405 with an aluminum g4 powerbook? Can it support the monitor on its own, or do I need to get an external card like HDLINK?

Sodo.. it is possible to use the monitor on location for sure. Currently I'm just using A/C. It doesn't have a D/C connector. I'm sure that there is an inverter option for this and I might try to figure that out. For the most part though, I'd be able to get power. I'm also going to use the Dell for mostly studio shooting... and bring the Marshall as an on-camera model.

You can use the dell on a G4 powerbook with either the VGA or DVI. I've hooked it up to a 12 inch powerbook. HDLINK wouldnt be necessary unless you wanted to go component instead of VGA or DVI.

I'm hoping to buy a 2nd monitor within a few weeks. I think it's a glorious computer monitor and a great cheap field and client WOW monitor. We need to say thanks again to Barry and those that spotted this gem. It's a better deal than the cinema displays for sure.

So let me sort this out......
You can use the Dell going DVI from your
G4 laptop. How accurate is the brightness and color?
I tried going DVI out from my G5 to my
Toshiba DLP and it looked like crap.
And someone said going component out
from the camera to the Dell looked like crap??

I tried going from componet on the camera right to the Dell and it looked pretty poor. I don't know if there is a setting adjustment that I can make to clean up the image? So far I haven't found one but it doens't mean that it doesn't exist.
