Gentlemen.... (P2 beep)

I will definately ask exactly what the problem was and report back.

What are you doing in the meantime until you fix the problem? Are you filming? Do you have footage with the beep sound ? Can you re-shoot? Im curious what my options are for removing the beep from the footage i already shot?

A few of you have offered to take a listen to my audio tracks. I will put a few things together although Im not exactly sure how or what program I need to upload the audio.

I dropped my camera off in LA today... I was told it would take 2-3 days for them to fax me an estimate, and that the repair would start some time after that... the fellow I had corresponded with by email, who told me 2-3 days total, wasn't in, so I'm hoping the front desk guy who took the camera just wasn't fully informed...? I'll report back when I hear anything...

I hope not! They said that's their process. Jan said somewhere that it would be handled as a warranty repair. Anyway, again, the person I had actually contacted earlier was not there when I arrived, so I'm hoping the front desk fellow was not completely informed about this. He wasn't aware, for example, of the beeping issue....

Ullanta, I s/w Panasonic L.A. today to schedule an appt. I was told the 1st unit slated for the P2 beep repair was due to come in today. That must have been yours : o

I'm bringing in mine in next week...let's hope all goes well.

Jan,
Im gonna call them tomorrow morning. Honestly, Im expecting my camera to be ready by tomorrow. The repair guy I spoke to said he was giving it priority. I have a shoot scheduled for this weekened with actors and locations in place.

Picked up my camera this morning in Secaucus NJ. The beep, Im happy to report, is gone.

According to the service report, an electronic part needed to be replaced. So this is something that cannot be remedied at home with the push of a few buttons.

Although the beep is gone, this is still a very new issue with these cameras. Whether it returns remains to be seen. But I will always from this day forward, find a quiet spot on set and double check for the beep before yelling action.

Thanks to everyone for the support.

I also want to say thank you to the Panasonic Techs in Secaucus. Your service was extremely quick and professional.

I am glad to hear that the problem is a somewhat quick fix. I hope they don't get backed up.

What if there is no center near us? Panasonic covers the shipping charges, right?

This would be nice, but is highly unlikely. Insurance is what gets you. $15.00 to ship the camera, but roughly $45 to insure it. Still not that bad, but still not something I am happy to pay.

Perhaps they'll compensate us with some free stuff. (again, unlikely)

I admit I am very fortunate to live so close to a Panasonic center.

I just received a follow up call from one the guys in charge over there. He just wanted to make sure everything was working okay. He was very nice.

He assured me that the beeping will not return. The camera wasn't set up properly to accept the 16 or 32 gig cards, this is what I gathered by his explaination of the problem

What about when the 64gb or 128gb cards come out? Will we need to send in the HVX200's in for "repair" again?!?

Question for Jan,

Can we tell which cameras will need to be repaired by their serial number?

Ian

Not likely. I'm just guessing here, but I imagine the fix is something like a little wire re-routing or the addition of a simple component to provide some isolation.

Hi,

Keep in mind that all warranty repair is "walk-in" service. There is nothing in the warranty that says tha shipping is included. That said, our service department will pay for return shipping and insurance.

Best,

Jan

I have sent all my information to the email address mentioned a few posts back on Thursday night, how long untill I get a reply? I would like to take my camera to the LA office..

The response will primarily tell you to contact the LA office directly:

PANASONIC - PBTSC SERVICE 3330 CAHUENGA BLVD WEST LOS ANGELES CA 90068 (323) 436-3507

Hi Crazy Ideas,

Please send me a private message as I cannot tell who you are and therefore cannot be totally certain that your request has been received. As it stands from the email I just got back from the Service Guy that is monitoring this, all requests have been followed up on and no one seems to be in your position. Would you please ping me that message and give me your real name and email address and we will get you taken care of, quickly.

Thanks,

Jan
