Gentlemen.... (P2 beep)

Jan, good to see you around more.
If I get another new HVX in the box will the beeping issue be resolved or are there still new units with the issue? Not the end of the world, but I willlikely be ordering early next week and I already have to send in my old one in for the battery latch issue.
Thanks and looking forward to seeing you at NAB!

Just noticed your response, Jan.

The footage included a white Chevy Van and a green VW Passat, and yes, it's flipped. You would also notice that the scenes take place in the desert.

Thanks for looking into this.

Hi,

So I listened to the footage in the P2 Viewer and the speakers were cranked on high and with all of the Nat Sound, I couldn't hear the beep at all. I compared them to other camera recordings that had the beep. Not saying that you don't but with all the Nat sound I flat out couldn't hear it. Perhaps another recording should be made with more control over the audio track.

Best,

Jan

Thanks for taking a listen.

Panasonic L.A. hooked my camera up to an amp and confirmed they were able to identify the audio issue. I had 40 min's worth of clips on my card so I don't know what clips were sent to you.

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but if you're willing, I'll check what I have on my card and send you a few clips on DVD.

Appreciate your attention,

Do the Gentlewomen have anything to say about this?

Cheers Riceman! I had assumed the OP wasn't interested in our opinions!!

I'm actually not sure what to do for my camera at this point. In January I experienced a problem recording sound where I just got a weird squeaking and crackling static. It happened on a couple of shots out of many I took that day. (I shoot on 16GB cards exclusively.) I took the camera in for service and they couldn't find anything wrong with it, and I haven't had the problem since.

However, having stumbled across this thread I tried the controlled test described by ullanta and I can hear beeping through my headphones when the volume and levels are up at full. If I play the clip back through the camera I can't hear the beeping, but if I play the clip through the computer at a high volume I can hear it. I've never noticed it before on any of my shots, and I'm not sure that it would be loud enough to cause a problem if I was actually recording sound instead of having nothing plugged in, but the fact that it's there at all worries me. I know that when I took my camera in for service in Jan, they installed the latest firmware. But I can't say if the camera had the issue before that because I hadn't conducted the controlled test at that point.

Does anyone know what it is that they actually do to fix this issue? I got the feeling from the service guy that he'd done all that he could. As it's Australia, everything goes through authorised service centres, there is no Panasonic outlet to go to directly. Maybe I should tell him to speak to Panasonic in the States as they know how to deal with it?

Howdy,

I live in Toronto, Ontario (Canada). If someone from Toronto has had their camera sent in for the "beep" repair, can you please answer the following questions for me:

1) Did you send it to the States to have it repaired or was it repaired locally?

2) If it was repaired locally, can you please give me the address and contact info (email, phone, etc.).

3) How long was the turn around before you got the camera back?

Thanks for your help!

Can anyone confirm exactly what causes this problem, or when to expect it (if the problem is there)? I've read that it only happens with certain sizes of P2 cards, and in some cases, only in certain slots. But I haven't found any concrete evidence of anything specific.

I only shoot using 4gb cards right now, and cannot find any beeping issue that I can detect. But if the issue only occurs with larger sized cards, then I'll never know unless I gain access to the right size card... If either of my two cameras have this defect, I'd like to know as soon as possible.

It's my understanding that it only happens with 16GB cards or larger. I've never heard a report of it happening with 4GB or 8GB cards.

FWIW I just tested this on the new HVX we got this week. Even thoguh the dealer had it a while, I was thrilled to find that there is no beeping sound at least with the 16 gig card we got with the camera. I tried it on the .mxf files with the shotgun and wirless mics.

I'll have to test this on our older HVX after upgrading the firmware and see if it pops up. If it does, I'll be looking for a quick turnaround as well.

Sorry i haven't replied to this in thread lately, I've been bouncing between several non-HVX gigs lately.

I'm shooting with the camera on Tuesday. Not sure what the audio set up will be as we're shooting multi-cam in a studio environment and will be switching between multiple P2 cards.

I'll keep you up to date and thank again for your interest.

Just discovered this happening with my 8 gig cards.. luckily it was a 2 camera shoot and both cams had the same audio mix going to them. The the other camera which was rolling 1 16 gig card and 1 8 gig card had no issues.

I was swapping between my 8 gig cards..

Do we know if this is only a line in problem? using the inputs set to mic is okey?

Currently in an edit suite for the rest of the week, wont have time to test the camera again until i take it out to panny on monday.
