Gentlemen.... (P2 beep)

Hi Jan -

First thanks for taking care of us here on the board, I cant tell you how great it is to have access to a rep in this manner.

I'm trying to decide whether to send my camera in right now - I can hear clicking and a beep every two seconds but only with the levels cranked and the headphone volume at full blast. Under normal recording conditions I cant hear this at all. Is it something that might get worse? If its not necessary I'd like to not have to send my camera away, but if you think sending it in is advisable, then I'll go ahead and send it in.

Thanks Jan!

Jeff,

even if you can't hear it at "normal" levels, you might over a better speaker system. And one day, you'll want to raise the gain on a recording in post, and the oise will be amplified.

My suggestion would be to wait until you have some downtime, since this doesn't seem to be a major problem for you at the moment, and have it fixed then.

Has anyone confirmed if their Camera had NO beeping problem UNTIL they did the 16 gig card firmware upgrade?

Or if they heard NO beeping EXCEPT when using 16 or 32 gig cards?

I'm not hearing it and I've got a 1 & 1/2 year old camera. Just curious if I'm understanding correct that if it isn't there now, I won't hve this problem?

I haven't heard of beeping from 4 or 8GB cards. There are noises when recording to those for some people (like me), but not nearly so intrusive as the beeping. I never noticed anything using 4GB cards (on my 21 month old camera), and did when I got the 16GBers. Unfortunately, didn't do any comparison between pre/post firmware update. but as the fix is a hardware fix, I doubt it's a firmware issue! Just coincidence b/c the update is necessary to use the 16GB cards.

I would send it in. It seems to be a fast repair and then you don't have to worry about it showing up at the most inconvenient time.

Best,

jan

It is a very quick repair. A day and a hlaf, in my case. I drove the camera in Tuesday morning, and picked it up Thursday morning.

OK, thanks for the advice Barry and Jan. I think I will go ahead and send it off after I finish up this next project that's about to start. Its going to a second system for sound recording anyways, so the darn thing can beep all it wants for this one :)

Thanks!

Jeff

Hi Everyone,

Just got an email from Panasonic NZ who are fixing our HVX202 free of charge
I'll be happy not to here anymore beeps :)

Got my cam back from Panny LA today - haven't had a chance to do extensive testing, but informal tests made me think that the cam sounded better than ever - as if some of the older "preamp noise" was gone as well, in addition to the removal of the P2 noise and beep... slick! I'll test thoroughly ASAP.

A great experience of truly professional service, with an impressively quick response on the part of Panasonic, and a friendly and responsive experience with the folks at Panny LA!

HVX Audio Beep Repari

HVX Audio Beep Repari

Hi all,

Just reporting back on the progress since we started a discussion on the following thread which is now closed but still posted.
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=106343&highlight=shootdc

Thanks Jan for sharing the information on how to get the problem fixed. Top-notch service from Panasonic in handling this issue. A two day turnaround and a camera that no longer beeps. I discussed the fix with the Panasonic engineer in New Jersey who didn't offer much about the exact nature of the fix, but it is a hardware procedure.

Our HVX will be getting a workout in the next couple of weeks. I'll report back if anything else changes, but for the moment everything is fine.

I have to report that after getting my camera back from being serviced by Panasonic last week that the beep is STILL present. Just spent a day shooting in the field. Upon transfer I became aware of a faint beeping sound.

I'm starting to get frustrated. The P2 reader failed the 1st week I had the camera, then it had to go in for P2 service.

Jan, I know you contribute to these forums, any ideas? I have another shoot scheduled next weekend (Feb. 9th and 10th).

I rely on this camera to make a living, I love the images but am losing confidence.

Hi Bill,

My suggestion is that you call the service guys back. Let them know the problem still exists. Tell them that you have an quickly approaching job coming up that you need the camera for and if you cannot get it back in time and have it working you have a serious problem. Can they loan you a camera if yours does not make it in time? I think you will find that they will make every attempt to make your deadline.

Best,

Jan

I'm sorry to say... I was shooting yesterday with my repaired camera... and sure enough, there was a bit o' beeping. I'll do some more extensive testing this week to see if it's significantly different than before - I DIDN'T hear beeping during my controlled test when I got the camera back... Bill, I assume you had this done at the LA office, too?

More info soon...

Hi Ullanta,

My advice is the same for you as I gave to Bill, if it is still there, call them and arrange for a time to drop of and demo if possible. If not, send a sample of the offending beep with details on how you got it. Keep in mind they guy that repaired it, thought he had. It can be fixed so there is no beep, so, the guy that repaired it didn't listen in the same way. So help him find it and he will fix it.

Best,

Jan

Yeah, I went back to LA office. I left the footage on my P2 card so they could hear what I was hearing. Apparently someone is flying in from Japan on Wed. that can look at the camera.

At home (about 10 days ago, after getting the camera back from Panasonic) I attached a shotgun to a boom pole and went through the audio settings, no beep.

In the field (3 days ago) we used a combination of shotgun mic and lavs (hard wired). Wasn't till I got home and reviewed my clips that I could hear the beep again through a head-set.

So far c/s has been very attentive. I'll keep you posted.

Hmmm... I was hearing beeps when feeding the cam through my 302. Do your lavs send mic or line-level?

Just to follow up on this thread, Panasonic transferred some clips from my card to DVD and sent them to New Jersey. The report that came back said that levels are below minimum standards so no new service has been rendered.

Do I hear the beep? Yes. Does everyone else? Some yes, some no. But I can identify the beep in other people's HVX200's who swear they can't hear it.

To answer your question ullanta, I use the cam/mic set up in both config's. We've used hardwire, wireless, Lectro, Sennheiser, just about any audio setup you'd imagine.

How is your camera sounding these days?
