First Philip Bloom footage with 7D

Thanks for this Phillip. Excellent work as usual. I can't wait to see what else you put together with this thing.

Your work is inspiring Phillip. I assure you that you are an inspiration to thousands! Thanks for giving us all insight and perspective. We all look forward to seeing your 7d footage and hearing your perspective.

"What it does is simply stretch the clip out to 25p effectively doubling the length of the clip giving you perfect slow motion."

This is definitely nit picky, but all that the conform function (which I adore) does is change the meta data so that the player or NLE plays the file back at that framerate. It actually doesn't alter the video itself at all (which is why it is nearly instant).
How about conforming 50i to 25p? Does it alter video at all? It does not alter original video, but it does alter what you are getting.

In Vegas, video is played back with slower speed, but the event's length on the timeline is not doubled, you have to do it yourself if you want to slowdown the whole event. So, saying that conforming to 25p means stretching an event is a bit of misnomer and depends on NLE.

PB, you drink a LOT!

EDIT: did you drink all those martini's? This video must have cost you a fortune?

I'm calling the canon recomendation # to ask them for thier fax # to send my resume'

Sorry was basically putting into a visual metaphor that people could visualise.

Nice work Phil, much appreciated. Downloading the 720p clip on Vimeo. A couple of nits to pick with Phillip's write up (though I forgive him, he does look tired!).

"using just my Canon L series 50mm f1.2 (which effectively becomes an 80mm with the 1.6 magnification you get when using a full frame lens on an APS-C camera)"

A big misconception that people seem to have. An APS-C sensor does not magnify the image at all. What it does is only captures the APS-C sized area in the middle of the lens projection which narrows the field of view but doesn't cause any magnification at all.

i meant to say effectively magnification of image. Not best choice of words at 5am..

Ugh, I just bought a Blade. I know I'll love it, but the vdslr's are getting more and more tempting...

Almost did the same thing last week !
Now im just waiting to see what comes out with these vdslr's.
And start collecting glass.

doesnt make me thirsty ,makes me angry, its not what i expected from filmmaker when everyone is waiting for decent footage

I know that you said you were just kidding, don't take this as my slapping your hands or calling you out of your name. I saw that someone else posted "no footage of bees, flowers, etc" in another thread and I'd like to remind people that for working class people like Phillip, sometimes it's hard to pull together something more than just outdoors and people.

The times that you do shoot something magnificent, it may be for a client (or probably always is) and you can't come to the forums and post it. It's quite a sad thing to experience, but work is work.

As well, with the pressure to show footage you kind of just want to give people something to look at it, even if it's just the camera on a bar counter shooting glasses. Vincent Laforet's piece is a serious rarity. We're lucky to have been introduced to the 5D like that.

Hopefully when cameras get into the hands of more users there'll be less bees, trees and automobiles and some lit, narrative footage. Stay cool and let's take what we can get!

The Blade is an excellent piece! I'm running the LEX and since the 7D is relatively inexpensive, I'm going to keep my existing HVX Setup and add the 7D as my 2nd cam.

Kholi, Are you getting a 7D?

I simply pulled focus manually using the lcd screen, no assist. tricky but am quite good at it after all these years.

MUCH BETTER FOOTAGE COMING LATER. this was a little joke video post

Stick to your day job Phil, cause I didnt get that joke

Awesome work Philip, and thank you so much for taking the time to test this camera for us all!

I have one minor request: please, please, please do a test to show if "jello" effects this camera in both 720P and 1080P.

Thank you again for all your hardwork!!
