First Philip Bloom footage with 7D

I liked the short video of the wine glasses much better.

I don't feel like seeing bloody cuts on Philip's neck, and I am not fond of heavy color correction he uses at times. With crushed blacks this video is not representative of what comes from the camera. Did he want to make an artsy piece or to show what the camera can do?
 
We all know that PB can make any camera look amazing. We don't need reassurance of that. What we wanna see is PB exploit the SH!t out of this camera, so that we know how it stands up to the faults of the 5DM2. Bloom - shoot some badly aliased stuff, and work that jello vision!

The former.

Test charts and waving the camera at a bookshelf to test rolling shutter is not his thing. And that's great, if you ask me.

I do not get how people could be whining at a guy that stayed up til 5am to edit/grade/render/encode/upload a great short movie for *free*.

Thanks Mr. Bloom. Great work. Can't wait to see more of your 7D stuff.

Free publicity for what exactly? He's already pretty well known. He knows what he's doing and is taking the time to contribute something. Where's your pre-production model of the 7D?

Have you ever heard of "existing in appreciation" It's kind of a spiritual state. Mr. Bloom gives, and we just sit back and appreciate. ...and yes people that give and give like mr. Bloom tend to garner some recognition. I don't have a problem with that.

You kind of sound like a person that I would invite to my house for Rib Eye and and then complain that there is no baked potato.

Yes, but that is only mildy interesting. I find it much more instructive to see the best that it can be.
 
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess Cranky is the twit who was trolling Phil's vimeo page as well.

I don't have problems with appreciating what someone else is doing. I have problems with someone telling me that I must appreciate what someone else is doing just because it is free for me to peruse.

I do respect Mr. Bloom as a person and I do respect what he does, but not for a second I feel obliged.
 
Cranky tell us what you like and let's go from there. I am not excited to see a man shave either but if it is slow motion, backwards, and on a Canon 7D I will watch it! The footage was just letting us know that yes the camera actually works as stated. I now know for sure that it uses the correct frame rates and it can be easily edited in FCP. Also that using ProRes LT should be good enough for most work with this cam.

That's a lot for some simple video.

I like his test videos of the HM700, HPX301 and the HM100. For the HPX301 he actually has two videos: one is a walkthrough accompanied by uncorrected from-the-cam video, another is color-corrected piece. This is a great pair of videos, making a whole package. The HM100 review is very nicely done, but crushed blacks killed it for me, I did not see what exactly the camcorder put out, I saw what Philip made of it, and these are two different things.
 
Nobody should care what nicknamed posters care about or not. I am a professional and
that is why my comments, good, bad or controversial carry my full name. Philip Bloom is giving us a chance to take a look at a professional tool that might benefit us tremendously as professionals and I appreciate his efforts regardless of his video's contents. Thank you Mr. Bloom ,again, as pros we really appreciate what you are doing.
 
There's no reason to continue ganging up on Cranky, you just drag it out. He's already stated his case and has given examples of what he does like. On a forum where people are allowed to voice their opinions in a vicious fashion about feature films playing in theaters, it should also be okay with being honest (and polite-- Cranky really wasn't that impolite) about the work of our peers.

Should probably let it rest and wait for more footage from Philip.
 
Well, I guess at the end of the day all the controversy is good publicity for Philip Bloom! After all we all belong to that wonderful world of showbusiness!

Thanks for that Barry! I must of missed his post.

I actually wanna know if it's better then the GH1 in regards to jello.

The 7D costs $700 more then the GH1 down here in Australia...guess I'm just really anxious to know if it's worth me spending an extra $700 (on my already ultra-tight student budget lol), and waiting another 6 - 8 weeks for the 7D...

No. To me the basis of this board is to exchange as much information as possible in an intelligent, respectful way. One thing I don't really like and will say it without compromise is that I do not like individuals using nicknames to interact in a professional and informational environment, especially when they attack the work of somebody that is really doing us a favor. Whoever does not like that philosophy well... That is why I applauded and supported reduser.net to go with real names. I love this board and I've learned a whole lot here and I am sure I will learn a whole lot more looking forward.
