First Philip Bloom footage with 7D

I liked the short video of the wine glasses much better.

I don't feel like seeing bloody cuts on Philip's neck, and I am not fond of heavy color correction he uses at times. With crushed blacks this video is not representative of what comes from the camera. Did he want to make an artsy piece or to show what the camera can do?

I make an artsy piece. Want to see some charts? Sorry. Wrong man.

Reminds me a bit of Scorsese's The Big Shave. Except no audio commentary on the Iraq or Afghanistan war.

The pieces seem to use available lighting, so I wouldn't judge these pieces as technical representations of what the 7D can or cannot do.

Hi Guys,

If you do check out my blog I have clearly said that you will not see a review from me until I have some time with the camera. Yesterday I got a new toy and I was DESPERATE to do some slow motion with it. Limited to my hotel room I did a simple little film to just get some footage out there that is different from the current stuff. Yes it is graded, yes it's not to everyone's tastes. Not all my stuff is graded. Very little of my 5dmk2 stuff is actually.

When the review comes it will be neutral colour profiles with some 5d comparisons. The problem I have is it's not entirely fair to compare the 5d to the 7d as the one I have is a preproduction model so AS LONG as people are aware of this and don't take what I say as gospel (and this is GREAT advice for any reviews you read from me and other people, these are just opinions, it's what you think that is most important) then I will go ahead and do lots more filming and as usual share it all with you.

Yes I am not getting paid for this, not by Canon or anyone, and yes it is good publicity for me of course as after all I am a freelancer trying to get work like anyone so the more known I am the better. BUT, the reason I do this, like the reason I started the F-Stop Academy is i love to share imy knowledge, my information, something I have been doing on my blog for free for the past 2 and a half years. I want to give advice, as much as I can and help people out. It's as simple as that.

Trust me, this is not an easy gig. I am up till 3am most nights replying to emails or comments. But I want to do it and it gives me satisfaction.

I am sorry if you were expecting an on camera review of the 7d. That will come, but for now it makes more sense for me to get a feel for the camera. Shoot it in a number of places and situations and share as I go along and THEN give a proper review. If you would prefer I could just post at the end, but I think people like the snippets of info and the fun little shorts I knock off when i can. I enjoy filming more than I enjoy testing. I combine them both in a relatively un-technical way. I am about real world and real life examples.

yes I will go out at night and do some handheld low light. Yes I will do side by side. Yes I will check aliasing. There is a lot to do and I have this camera for 3 weeks. I will make the most of that time and try and be as thorough as I can. What happens at end of 3 weeks? I give camera back to Canon and wait for the one I have pre-ordered from Calumet photo.

I appreciate the comments.

Cheers!

Phil

Phil, you really don't have to explain yourself. Regardless of a few negative comments the majority of us respect the contributions from you and the many other professionals on this board. So keep on keepin on.

No Philip, don't do it! You have so much to live for!

No. To me the basis of this board is to exchange as much information as possible in an intelligent, respectful way. One thing I don't really like and will say it without compromise is that I do not like individuals using nicknames to interact in a professional and informational environment, especially when they attack the work of somebody that is really doing us a favor. Whoever does not like that philosophy well... That is why I applauded and supported reduser.net to go with real names. I love this board and I've learned a whole lot here and I am sure I will learn a whole lot more looking forward.

thanks for clarification. I'm sure users who post with real names, or nicknames,
have there reasons. That's fine by me. I appreciate the free flow of ideas.

There seem to be plenty of real name boards for those who prefer that. I'm sure
those that prefer those boards can be happy there. However, sometimes, on those boards it seems like every post is how polite can one be ? Or some posters sound like they're constantly on prozac. Names may be real, but what about ideas?

as for reduser, it's interesting. Real names are apparently there policy now.
I guess they want all members to stand by what they say. However, how
come the Owner Jannard, posted a thread, that some apparently disagreed with, and it was subsquently deleted? Ie: he can delete what he wants, but it's apparently not an option for his posters? { I didnt see this first hand,
but read about it on another forum, so not sure if its true }

LOL I thought the same thing when I saw that, nice

Thanks again for the footage and for taking the time to address the naysayers - enthusiasm gives way to impatience in everyone at some time or another and that post will likely calm them!

Was I the only one that didn't bother to read that the video was in reverse.... i watched for the first few seconds wondering why this man doesn't know how to properly use a razor until i realized what was actually going on

Good stuff nonetheless.

that's because i never said it was in reverse in my description!
The clue was in the title. So i started in a subtle way to get that reaction then make it more obvious as I went on.
