Christmas presents...

Jim,
I don't know what to say but… Thank you.
As mentioned before it would be great to know how the EVF is going to articulate with cinema heads and an EVF extension system (nothing optical of course) for those occasions you need to have the EVF remain at the same angle while the camera and the head are tilting up or down

No flip-out screen. The LCD you're seeing on the camera is what the body will ship with for reservation holders. The thing that looks like a flip-out LCD is actually the optical RAW port plate.

The EVF is not included in the purchase price but is an absolute must for certain types of shooting.

It is completely dependent on you whether or not the included LCD will cut it.

Thanks Brook,

I'm going to shoot almost exclusively independent features. Besides outdoor daylight, what limitations would the LCD have that the EVF would not. and what types of shoots would an EVF be a must?

Vladimir

I would venture saying that the LCD is useless for any shoulder mount shooting, due to too much proximity to the operator's eye.
Only the once mentioned GUN position could make use of it.
Note that I'd love to be proven wrong though.

Maybe, but remember as well... you can mount that on a magic arm out and away from the camera on a shoulder mount if you wanted too.

Thanks for the presents, Jim. Here's a completely superficial question: Will the body be black as previously described, or grey as pictured? I'm partial to black, so I'm hoping the grey is just to make the renders show up better. (either way it's looking great)

Well I guess you could do that in a way, actually we may have to, until the EVF ships and/or we can afford it.
actually since this LCD will have excellent resolution the distance to the operator's eye shouldn't be that long after all, thank you Jarred.
Then of course you still have problem of using an LCD in bright daylight, but there are already some solutions to this.

The more I look at it the more I just love this last full studio setup, that's really pro lookin' and feelin'. Should someone add the RED 300mm?

Very very very nice renders. I'm very impressed.

I love that 3rd render of the minimal setup.

Jim, how wide is the bottom of the camera? I see that the dovetail itself even bolts on (as does the flat top plate I see), so you coudl have different sized dovetail peices...

Please tell me that you could bolt on true dovetail peices that would total exactly the size of the Steadicam dovetail plates.

The ability to drop the camera directly onto the Steadicam stage without need for a plate in between would be incredible! :2vrolijk_08::love4: No more camera screws to tighten! Oh say it is so!

Please tell me you guys have mounting holes in the bottom of the camera for the camera peice of the sony plate system too?

Jim has mentioned that the EVF will be available when the camera ships. :)

I have shot handheld with with HVX and a Marshall 7"HD monitor on a magic arm (Zacuto makes a great one) and it worked beautifully. I can see the same setup working perfectly with RED.

sheer hard work and effort = RED ONE

Over-engineered, solid design strength and awesome looks...i love it:)

That last render looks great for my kind of work, great balance i would imagine.

HAVE A GREAT XMAS RED TEAM AND WELL DONE:beer:

Jim Jannard, thank you very much for everything. Also, thank you for the consideration on a special lil' deal for reservation holders on accessories.

Definitely...double cheers!

If you celebrate Christmas, then Merry Christmas!

If you celebrate Hannukah, then Happy Hannukah!

No matter what you celebrate, have a happy holiday period!

RED is definitely my favorite color this holiday season...

BTW, RED team, I hope you have some student working on his thesis documenting how you developed a 4K camera for under $20K with a small team of passionate pros, taking under a year to break industry paradigms. I'd call the thesis "How a small team, pizza boxes & a warehouse transformed digital cinema 101". Or maybe, "Naysayers and the taste of their feet in their mouths - the true story of RED". Haha, sorry, too much rum cake and Ale...

As a renter, becoming an owner, don't worry about one or two features. I'd rather have the camera now, then in two years.

RED#'s cautiously optimistic

We'll hold the celebration until we begin shipping and customers are stoked times 4k. Then I'd be happy to give anyone that is interested an inside look at the process... from company philosophy, product concept, team building, branding, and marketing strategy. Not sure how many would actually be interested, but I'm at your service.

Jim
