I guess being a small biz guy myself, I find the mechanics of a start up pretty interesting. Especially one that seems to have accomplished so much in so little time. I'm sure there are others who would be interested, after you've got the camera shipping and firing on all cylinders, of course. Thanks for the consideration ;)

I know you guys still have a lot of hard work in front of you (and fun too) so I'll keep the bubbly on ice for now. But, I see that Dom getting drunk in 2007...

And I can't believe I didn't see the synergy between REDbull and RED. Powerfully Caffeinated Digital Cinema :laugh: You can take that one for free.

I, for one, am a behind-the-scenes junky and I know I'm not alone.

I bet with a bit of DVXuser collaboration a very nice documentary could be made.

Jim, when I come to CALI. to pickup RED557, I would truely love an opportunity to learn as much as possible about the company, people and process that will hugely impact my life for the better. I have five years to makeup for... everything that I have a chance to learn only helps fill that void. :)

There's nothing I would love more. To have the camera, then the how we got there. Looking forward to it. I have very short commute, plus the time, and love handles

It would be interesting to see if having some sort of info session or orientation will happen when pickup time rolls around. Maybe, pickup the cameras on specified days and get hands-on before taking it home. Hear a bit of history of development, etc.

Kind of like when I got European-delivery on my Porsche 959 and flew to Germany for a few laps around the Nurbergring, before I shipped it home.....OOOPS, my bad, that's somebody elses life, not mine. :)

It would be good to do it with RED though.

I think you may have overlooked the recently announced (optional) bluetooth implant . . . you just "think" record, no button necessary! I heard that a soon to follow firmware upgrade will permit this (red-plant) device to scan your brainwaves, allowing you to video past events from memory.
 
I was wondering if Red was planning on a breakout box for accessories like lens motors, lens light, cine tape etc. It seems that there are already going to be enough ports to fill the camera body and that an externally mounted breakout box would be the solution.

I was also wondering if the viewfinder was planned to come with an extension of some sort. I know most people want one that can take a leveling rod but I was also looking for something that could mount it farther forward. From what I'm seeing, it looks that the camera will be front heavy for handheld and to balance that out one would need to have the viewfinder mounted over the lens mount or even farther in front. The other option seems to be extending the battery and red drive rear-rods, which i'm not so keen on.

Other than that, everything looks good. I like the bottom plate with dovetail and that it seems that there are many sliding plates (that look similar to lens supports) that all the other attachments can mount to.
 
Someone mentioned earlier how exciting they're gonna be when the camera shows up. I know that feeling. For years I've always wanted a Canon XL1. Exactly 5 years ago I bought an XL1S. Adrenaline was running through my system and I could barely sleep the first night. I also remember being afraid of dropping it getting it out of the box the first time.... ;-)

Sort of the same thing happened the first day I flew out to the RED offices. It is quite a memorable place with awesome people. I was so excited and afraid I would do something "wrong" :)

This is truly a remarkable product to build and I cannot say enough about my fellow RED team members. They are all awesome! I'm so proud to be a part of that.

Merry Christmas Rob.. the work your doing in those Red offices is contributing to that exact same feelin... your giving that gift to many people, here and around the world.

So first take a bow, then goto bed :) I am sure i can speak for everyone here that we all appreciate what your doing.

Same thing happened with my first DVX, then x10 for the HVX. I can't even imagine a red box at my door.

I was under the impression that there was no such thing as a standard dovetail plate anymore.. as soon as you leave each series, and even inside a series there are so many custom plates and mods now its hard to peg. Im not a steadicam guy at all, so Mikko this is your area and im sure the knowledge would be much appreciated.

I have a Flyer and would be more than happy to bring it up to the offices if the Red team would like to document the sled dimensions for design purposes.
