Blackout-Powell Native 24p Patch - GH1 FTW!!!

Can someone please explain to Me or direct me to a thread that shows how to install the Inis into ptool when I'm creating a new bin file?

Once you unzip the ZIP file, place the .ini file in the same folder as ptool.exe and then open ptool. In the ptool, a letter along the bottom of the program will change color to correspond with the letter of the name of the ini file. Click that letter to load its settings.

Has anyone got a solution for getting this patch to work on a Mac? Whenever I download the files from the links on this thread I get an older version of pTool and when I look at the settings file there are options there that I can't manually enter. I would really like to work with these settings.
When I follow this link... http://www.gh1-hack.info/ptool3d.zip
I get a file that when installed will run as PTool v3.37d
There is no way for me to load the settings into this version.
Thanks for your help!

I don't have a Mac, but when I download and unzip the file from the link above, I get a Win32 program named "ptool3.exe". When I launch that program from the Windows desktop, it identifies itself as "PTool v3.51d (291110)", which is the latest version of PTool that will work properly with the Blackout-Powell Native 24p Patch.

Hello,

Sorry for the stupid question. I flashed my GF1 with a hacked firmware and now my camera shows a firmware 0.0 for the body firmware and before the flash it was 1.2
Is that normal?
Where can I see the changes in the software when I turn on the camera?
If I remember well, I did not have this much selection of available languages before the flashing and I don't remember having the HD video recording mode in the Q.MENU. Choosing this lets me record only 7min 10 secs on a 16GB SDHC card.
Is that normal?

Thanks and regards,
Vencel

In the future, please don't post the exact same message in more than one thread at a time. It just clutters up the forum.

Is anyone else able to get mud to appear in 720p60 with this patch? I can't force the 24p mode to break up or stop recording (well done, lpowell!) but I can force mud onto the 720p60 mode if i shoot extremely detailed fast-motion scenery.

I have been using Corel Video Studio X4 to edit my family video stories successfully using my GH13 with all previous hacks. However, I can't get a successful rendering using Video Studio with the 24fps files created by this patch. All the rendering options I tried result in very jerky video. When I ask Video Studio to display the properties of the file it thinks the frame rate is 47.952 (twice the 23.976). Something in the 24fps files created using this patch is confusing Video Studio. I had to use virtualdub to create 24fps files from the ones created by the camera to get Video Studio to finally be happy. I wonder if anyone is having this difficulty and if anyone has some suggestions. I do have Adobe Premiere that I suspect will work, but Video Studio is much friendlier for me to use... Al

Try Premier as it is a more popular, and most likely better supported editor. I've never used Video Studio so I'm not talking down to it, but I simply suspect that Premier would work better.

I agree that Premiere is more powerful and more updated. I just checked a laptop that I have where Mediainfo was not with the latest version and it reported the frame rate for the MTS files created with this hack as being 47.952 and reports correctly after updating it. Thus, I suspect something is different with these MTS files that probably requires an update to Video Studio... Al

EDIT: 24fps MTS files created with GH2 are fine by the way, so this hack definitely creates different 24fps files
EDIT 2: I suspect the encoder in GH1 is somehow inserting double the frame rate in some part of the MTS file

I doubt that, Avid interprets the footage as 23.976 as it should, but perhaps other applications don't react to it as well.

I appreciate your reply's. Using the latest version of Mediinfo, I have looked at the differences between the MTS files created by GH2 and the ones created by this patch and the only difference I see is this item: Format settings, ReFrames : is 2 frames for the GH2 files and it is 1 frame for the GH13 files. Perhaps this may help explain what is happening?... Al

This is a standard technical aspect of AVCHD encoding that should not degrade playback or rendering of the file. Since the GH1 AVCHD encoder does not produce B-frames, it needs only one reference frame ("ReFrames") to encode each P-frame. The GH2 AVCHD encoder needs two reference frames to encode its B-frames. MediaInfo obtains this information from a metadata field in the MTS file header which is used by the AVCHD player to determine how many reference frames it must be prepared to handle.

I really don't like Premiere.... it's clunky, unorganized, non intuitive, overpriced, and slow... and it has some weird issues.... Sony Vegas 10 or Edius 6 or both if you are working with hacked GH13s is my official recommendation. You can use after effects plug ins in Edius 6.

Agreed. After Effects is great, Premiere is mediocre. I love Avid and don't mind Final Cut, either of those would be my recommendation.

I dumped the whole 'Apple' craze a long time ago... Final Cut and apple were behind the times when they didn't support avchd and blu-ray. In this time of massive computing power and super advanced graphics cards you should haven't to render nearly anything. Let alone 'transcode' your footage to prores before editing. It should be an option not mandatory. Edius 6 has got that right and is a breeze. total native editing in full resolution. Vegas 10 however wins hands down on the most incredible mp4 encoder I have seen so far.
Final Cut, while powerful, is so slow it makes me want to pull someone else's hair out.
