Dude, you got the bomb make up FX going for you, that makes it intriguing. Plus I love post-apoc. Everything from Postman, Book of Eli, ...of the Dead anything, Mad Max, etc. Good luck.

Seriously, you had some really nice camera work in this one. I loved the long shot when he walked from the kitchen to the bedroom, real smooth. Everything worked for me. Fine job as usual. You really got the tone down.
 
I adore this one. I like the stylization, it had a little grind to it. Everything worked for me. Lovely film. No complaints.

Ok, now my girlfriend's feedback. (She's a Toxicologist). Your logic is flawed, you can't give a vaccine to someone already infected. Plus she went on about plague fumes and how that's not possible. I found it amusing. Other than that technical aspect, she liked it. I told her to suspend her disbelief. ;)
 
I loved how you created a whole universe in just 6 minutes. I think you had to go with the grind, because of the home video quality, but other than that I didn't get a grind feel.

Was the fog a chemical attack? I can't see a contagion in vapor form, but I guess it could be of an Alien variety. Also you aren't going to be giving an infected person a vaccine and usually it would be in liquid form not a pill.

Other than the problems above, it's a really nice looking piece.
 
Really great piece, Matt! You definitely took me to the middle of a nightmare very quickly. Not easy to create a believable universe like you did in such short order.

I don't care about the vaccine logic, I'm not one to dwell on the finer points of logic in the midst of a horrific nightmare. The atmosphere and tone sold me.

Have to give an extra big shout for the excellent post sound. It got very claustrophobic, which I think was the intent, and the sound sealed the deal on that front. I really liked the voice on am radio...nice touch!

Good work. I think you may have a contender on your hands.
 
I loved this one as well, Matt. One of your best yet. The sound design is awesome. You managed to create a world here and it worked perfectly. Felt gritty and just plain real at times.
I especially liked the build up towards the end and all the little sounds you put into it. I'll be shocked if this doesn't make it into the finals.
Your radio voice was perfect, you really nailed it.

Yep Vaccine was an awsome little genre piece - fitting well with the disaster horror theme that I often find most enjoyable in the movies I like to go see! The cinematography was stylish and I enjoyed the bold colouring styles to make us too feel infected. The make up effects were effective - as were the cutaways to the infected children. You did succeed in creating a pretty intense disaster stricken world in a very short time - no mean achievement.

The areas I think in my opinion, could have been improved, were the relaxed manner of the mother and father's performances. It was a bit too casual at times to maintain the same sense of intensity we saw occuring all around them. So definately a great little movie - but with some teeny inconsistencies with performance :)
 
From the opening shot, the beautiful green fog to the home movies tinted in green, I knew this was going to be something. You had more "meat" of a story than all of the stories I've seen so far. You had a beginning/middle/end with a twist. I felt the world you created. I felt every aspect of it. Everything was done well. I would not change a thing and I would enter this out in the public festivals, yeah, it's that good. You sold me and I don't get sold easily. Well done!
 
I really liked this. The ending had intensity and I felt the dread rising in me when the newscaster was reading the report. It really helped that he wasn't in the same room as her when that happened. You were just waiting for it to kick off. I also liked that he was paying for a mistake he made.

A pretty well rounded entry here, and Im a sucker for zombie-ish. I felt the middle could have been a bit more taught, but thats a minor gripe. The rest was great.
 
It just makes me sick Matt - you dragging your god damn boots! I just hope you consider playing with a web series with this concept :)
 
Lawrie i was seriously considering extending this or doing a web series, but soon we'll have THE WALKING DEAD on AMC by Frank Darabont and that will trump all.
 
God yeah thats true - however, check his out and see what he leaves out that the fans want! I think fans of horror love having variety. I go to a lot of horror movie festivals too and zombie movies of varying flavours are all appreciated for there differences, and there tends to be more enthusiasm/loyalty. You can always add in a British character or some other country to the cast to give it a unique (indie) accessibility for outside USA audiences too.
 
No you're absolutely right, it's amazing how zombie movies are an actual GENRE now and fans of zombies/plague etc. want more and more.
myself included. I like your idea of casting a Brit (I'm half Brit) or someone of another background as a character to get a better international response, i would definitely do that.
