Right. What photo? There hasn't been any photo since those of us briefed under NDA were not given a photo. With what Sony had us sign, nobody is going to leak anything beyond what we were told we could say. One journalist had his Nikon DSLR seized by Sony security. For everyone else, it was iPhones on the table where they could see them. I can't even tell you who else was there. But he did get his camera back after the briefing.

4K -- The Sony 4K XBR (on which we saw F65 footage) is $25K. Right now it is in NBA, NFL and drug dealer price range. These types will help Sony's ROI and further technology enhancements will bring that down. Content will be delivered. High Bandwidth fiber and ever-developing delivery codecs will enable consumer 4K. We're looking a longer horizon here, of course.

And the irony that I often like to point out is this is occurring in an environment where many US local broadcasters shoot ENG with BetaSX.

You're living in the past... Physical media is dead. Cable is dead. Youtube already has 4k delivery. High quality 2560x1600 monitors are only $1k. Many of us are ready for 4k content. (No offense intended.)

Consumer 4K delivery? I doubt there will be a Green-Ray or 4K-Ray. So that leaves delivery by our friends like Comcast and Time Warner. They still can't manage 1080. 4K streaming? I'll be in a nursing home or dead by then and won't be able to see it anyway.

No offense taken. By the way, who delivers your Youtube?

Here in France, HD is pushed by terrestrial DTV and the main channels are now in HD, but their subsidiary channels are still SD (which does not really matter by the way because most of them are crap)

We are on a slow wagon for fibered internet although some operators have offers at 100MB/s through cable or fiber.

If Sony is smart it will be the next F3 with a 4K sensor and onboard 4K recording, which infortunately I doubt (but please prove me wrong Sony !) at an "affordable" price point, let's say under 20K$. EVF, monitor, microphone/sound I care for less because we will ad better 3rd parties anyway. And maybe finally a PL mount (or, why not, an E-mount), not a proprietary one.

Anyway, see you in 12 days folks !

Right. What photo?

I think he was referring to a Sony UK web page where they overlaid the current tease copy over what looked to me like an older promo photo of a shooter on a sand dune shooting an offroad race (going on memory here). The camera was a little hard to make out, but it looked like an EX3. I can't find the page at the moment.

I just wrote it off as new copy on old collateral material.

No there is another photo in circulation, I can not really confirm the source nor do I want to compromise anyone's position but I just saw it and I"m blown away.

I guess we deserved that :p

I think it's time I put down the internet and step away from the computer for a while.

I think we’ll see a Sony F5 announced slotted right above the F3, somewhere around $20,000, and capable of 12-bit 4K recording just like the Canon C500. The internal codec on this new camera has to be a minimum of 50bmbps, but if they really wanted to catch Canon where it hurts, they would put a 100mbps 4:2:2 intraframe codec internally or higher into the camera. RAW takes up quite a bit of disk space, so having a good internal codec when you don’t need the advantages of RAW is helpful.

If Sony does release this 4K capable F5 camera, how exactly will it record 4K? They’ve talked about a 4K recorder in the past, and I think that they will come up with a solution that will work with all of their future cameras for the next few years. The FS700 firmware upgrade could also be coming that day (though it could come sooner), and both that camera and the F5 would benefit from having a Sony approved recorder with Sony media, ensuring performance and consistency. If they want to price it competitively, it would likely be around $4-$6,000.
