stinkin $400 GoPro can do RAW (sort of), why not our GH4?sounds good to me. But if they accomplish RAW, surely 10bir or 422 or both could be options as well.
So if they add RAW what file format is that? Cinema DNG? I've never worked with it before.
Personally I would love ProRes to be added.
I would not like it if it was RAW, if I wanted to shoot RAW I would've got something else like a BM camera. The main reason I stuck with GH4 is because of the more compressed files that still have some latitude in post, RAW brings on a new set of headaches from storage to computer horsepower.
We shouldn't get overly anxious that it's "true RAW". May very well just be the gamma log everyone has been expecting. Fingers crossed, though!
I second that!Assuming it may be DNG, if you get this product and Cineform then RAW becomes a breeze http://raw4pro.com/ . Been using it with BMPCC and it is just what the doctor ordered. Manageable file sizes, direct clip colour grading with 3d LUTS. The ability to tweak white balance, exposure, sharpness etc after the fact and with superior debayer make this a no brainer. As it is a wavelet based Codec you can determine CPU usage and you can even edit on a modest setup. Actually as far as size goes, Cineform RAW comes out in the same ballpark as high quality Prores. It's a home run IMHO.

10bit 4:2:2 internal ProRes.
Panasonic did just recently license ProRes from Atomos.
Now that would be awesome! Being able to record to ProRes in camera.
It's always much better to work in a edit friendly format in your NLE of choice, instead of working in H264 (which is really a camera acquisition or file delivery format)
even though the computer may be fast enough to handle it.
Adding raw capability wouldn't replace the existing video settings. You'd still be able to use the more compressed codecs that you (and I for that matter) love. The {possible} raw update would just be another option to use if/when necessary.
Just to add regarding the ProRes rumor, in the article it clearly states that there needs to be dedicated hardware to encode ProRes, unless the Panasonic engineers accounted for this extra hardware during their R&D for the GH4 I don't think it will be able to do it internally. Highly unlikely for ProRes to be true.
I think they could add ProRes by updating the FPGA image (if they are even using one). Even though that will take a fair amount of fabric, the bigger question is how the heck are they going to store the resulting file? I read somewhere that ProRes HQ is about 117 MB/s for FHD. That equates to around 470 Mb/s right?
