roganFILMs presents....

i can understand your intentions dude, but i can't get into it.

Thanks for watching. It was all spur of the moment, film making at its rawist. One shot is all we got, and the rediculous deadlines that I've explained before (wonder if some will watch w/o reading how this film came forth...doubt it) but none the less, thanks for watching.

So when you go to watch it, keep in mind, it was spontainously shot, and well lets just say its from my warpped mind
I just watched your film and then read the thread. What a fun and crazy idea.

This film has the kind of spontaneous energy you can only get from making it up on the fly. The music was perfect.

Thanks for sharing it.

What an odd little film! First off, that was certainly entertaining to watch. I loved the music and I thought the actor did a fine job of being a bit of a "nut." Though, one could certainly see this as a rebellious soul's defiance of social norms, values, and behaviors as a way to escape the mundane, which may be what the film really is about. Perhaps the ending is the pressures of socialization crushing him?

I didn't mind the fake scratches, dust and hairs, but what did irk me just a little was the use of the frame wobble or misalignment. I've used it before on a piece and it just didn't give the "old projector/film reel" feel that is necessary. Not a bad impulse, though. I had fun interpreting the piece.

Man this freaked me out! it was indeed very very cool. I have been drinking for past 2 hours and this comes on when I'm a little saucy. I had to watch it twice. Good job. I enjoyed it.

this felt very similar in style to Avante-Garde it was ethereal and very dream like, and also good for a simple idea.

So did I not warn you guys? You'll never look at film in the same way again. Seriously dude, you took the one shot with no script and got out there and created this warped little movie that you managed to splice together into something cohesive and brilliantly experimental though editing. Damian's music added a lot to it and was the other half of it.

The beauty of it was that you did it on a camera smaller than a palmcorder and it still looked good. I now dub you the Zak Forsman of Waco.

What can I say? What can I say?

...no...really...what can I say other than don't take the brown acid!
(I think I just had a flashback)

Rodney that just made my cliche quote thingy everyone and their dog does...

you too Zaza

Seems no one watches the film like before, or they just don't care to comment...or hate me...and want me dead or soemthing...maybe its just something and they don't want me dead...oh great I'm scared now....

Well, I watched it...yesterday. I've been trying to think of what to say since then. Given your past efforts I guess I was just hoping for something better. This is at least your third fest and it's time for you to step your game up.

Im not really sure what to say here but i feel like i def. have to give you some feedback. the music for the film was well chosen and the idea of the story was good but i dont think you gave this film your all. it was pretty well made, but it didnt grab my attention. however, i do wish you the best of luck in the fest :)

Interesting stuff Dustin...definately art film at it's most extreme. The closest I've ever come to liking films like this is the ingenious Sledgehammer video, but that's not to say that it isn't good. It's a perfect representation of that genre of filmmaking. It's just not my cup of tea.

I do have to say that the fact that it was an impromptou short made on the fly is cool and I have to give you credit for the spontaneous kinetic filmmaking.

O.K.

So I´m the Shmuck who is gonna speak out what - at least I belive - most of the guys here are thinking:

Dustin, in my book this is total crap!

And I´m not gonna excuse that fact with some gay "Art Film" comment.

Calling a film an "Art Film" is nothing but a translation of :
"Total crap - but I don´t have the balls to say that"

I´m pretty disapointed. This film does not judge your abilitys as a film maker.
It´s your 3th Festival entry and you sure made some more progress.
Heck I even can´t belive it`s from you.

Looks like a brain fart of some stoned first grade filmshool student, thrown together in a view hours.

I know you can do better, and YOU know that you can do MUCH better.
Honestly I think you did not put all the endeavor and push and stain into it as you have should.
I think you where not obsessed and focused and single minded enough, to give your very best.
But that´s what you have to do when you do a film - giving your very best.
It has to become a part of you, you have to be pragnat with it.
It´s a brain child.

And I feel it´s my duty as a fellow filmmaker and necessary to tell you that,
instead sneaking out of it, being a nice guy and calling it an Art Film.

Please don´t take that as a personal thing, but .....

Heck - take it personal - because it is a personal issue,
not a technical or just a matter of taste.
It´s a personal matter, because I care of what we all do here.
And so should you.

This is no offence and no flaming, but if I let you getting away with that,
without telling you my personal opinion - blunt, direct and unmasked -
will you be more obsessed, focused and singleminded the next time?
Will your next film be leaps better and will it show what you really can pull of
if you only try hard enough?

Dustin, please don´t think I hate you, or your work.
But I want you to think about it, and get better.

I was thinking a long time, if I should realy write this comment,
or just give you one star and don´t give a further f...ck.

But I give a f..ck,
and giving a f...ck is one of the wonderfull things of this comunity.

Giving a f...ck is what us all let grow and getting better every time someone gives a f..ck
and gives some honest unflattering feedback.

It may hurt, it may not what you wanted to hear,
it may not be butt kissing or pampering,
it may be hard to swallow and it maybe make you feel like sh..t.
But it is made with the best intentions, helpfull, valuable and the fuel for your progress as a filmmaker
and not to discurage you but to make a good man even better.

So I bit the bullet (and belive me, that was a hard decision) and wrote this

JUST BECAUSE I CARE.

And it was hard to do that in a foreign language.
The language barriere is not helpfull to express things like that and make
sure at the same time you get the tone right .

I hope this did not came over to rude and I din´t ment it to be rude.
I said this a a fellow filmmaker that gives a f...ck.

I hope you don´t hate me now.

Frank

I think I responded very well to this. Head back to my post and read it! Might make ya feel better. For what the film was, I definitely enjoyed seeing it. Then again, I can appreciate everything I see for its context of time, location, technique, etc. Not difficult.

Very well said Frank.

I always worry that some of my own more "blunt" comments will be taken the wrong way. You summed up my feelings perfectly.
