Brief look at my latest music vid...

are you really only 20 years old?

Unfortunately, yes. And when I say unfortunately, I mean that because in Austin, if you want to do anything on the weekends...you should probably be 21.

Really liked everything, b&w worked for me, Austins a great place to be for up and coming bands- nice work!

i'm usually rather critical of music videos posted on this site, so i keep my mouth shut... most of the time it's because the music is not very good.

i actually don't mind this song one bit, it's not bad. i think that's why i dig the video, either way i have to say this is, without question, on the top of what i've seen. i really like it. the hvx really performs. great job all around.

my one critique is; this is not directed at this video in particular but i've noticed a lot of these indie videos make HEAVY use of loft spaces. it seems like everyone is trying to copy "Love will Tear Us Apart" by Joy Division. It's a good look, but it's becoming overused. Luckily in this video it wasn't used exclusively, only a little here and there (seems to be a parking garage anyway, but same concept.) the vids that are just guys playing in a junk yard or a loft space are starting to bother me big time.

I kind of agree with the whole "performance shots in a warehouse/loft space/air hangar" they seem to be pretty standard. I think this video technically is a nice piece. The compositions, editing, pacing, etc. It fits for the song and the "style" I'd say. The shallow DOF without the use of an adapter is what I like most, knowing lighting and framing, you can get some narrow DOF with the HVX. That said, it'd be nice to see some videos with really clever and creative storylines and not just relying on pretty performance shots and loose storyline. I think thats what separates EVERY music video director on mtv2/Fuse with say.... Glazer, Gondry, etc etc..... this comment isnt really aimed at a critique for this video.... just stating my 2 cents worth on the world of music video in general

again, props Jeff.... good video man

Sorry about the delay and broken link. Our servers were having some problems for a while there, something about updates...I don't know.

Anyway, the link should be working again and if you don't feel like making that click back a page, here's the link again.

Lots of good comments in here guys, I appreciate the interest.

jeff... really great video. Nice lighting... Love the rim lighting and overall look and pacing. Like the subtle effects and graphics and how you have a theme and ties together nicely. Ther'es been a lot of 20k videos on here and yours for 1k is better than most. Impressive and nice to see something without the adapter biz... I think too many people stick one on front and think it's an instant beauty adapter.

I think the band should be super excited about what you did. Austin is also a cool town and I'm sure you'll get a lot of work, but musicians are always broke. Like the joke goes... what do you call a musician without a girlfriend? ...

i totally agree with you on that subject. it's very easy to marginalize one's work by doing a music video. they are extremely boiler-plate type productions. it takes a lot of work (or brains) to take it to that next level. that animation group SSSR made a triology of vids for a band called subtle. absolutely mindblowing. we need more of that.

Great clip!! Well done mate, you really put together a very solid music video. Looking forward to seeing you progress onto bigger and better things!

Really great visually! I'm not too much of a music video person, I'm more of a writer, but I do appreciate the work and time put into them. They're, in my opinion, probably the hardest pieces to create successfully. Music video directors are in a world of their own as far as visuals go. Awesome job.

WOW!, I think the music was excellent, on top of being another fine example of the great HVX! good job. I assume we'll see this on VH1.

Any other music video directors (or filmmakers in general) at SXSW film festival? I'm right in the whirlwind right now and having a blast. Just wondered if anyone else on the boards was in attendence.

And again, thanks for the comments guys.

hey jeff.

my latest short film "the great unwashed" was shown at the SXSW AFS showcase last night at the hideout theatre... it was really cool

I'm out and about shooting all kinds of sh*t.... will be working all this week...
