Recommend some "Weird" Movies

The weirdest film I ever saw was by Jan Svankmeyer. I think perhaps it was called Faust.

Yeah, Jan Svankmeyer made some weird but good stuff. I have a short film collection of his on DVD with some really great stuff. One of his that I couldn't handle was ALICE, which is a live action / stop-motion adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. The problem is the sound design. There is barely any dialogue, if any, and the whole film is grinding and crunching metal sounds that just F's up your brain. The film is somewhat weird but the experience is of watching it is weird and extremely unpleasant.

Finally saw some of the films recommended. That Holly Mountain I admit was pretty weird, but I was not prepared for Eraser Head, wow... that is on a whole other level of weirdness... I don't think I'll ever be the same after watching this.

It got me to wonder as I watch a few of these movies, I wonder while the Acting is going on, do some of the Actors think to themselves while performing the scenes or even afterwards, "What the hell is this director thinking" "Am I nutz for doing this stuff?" While watching these movies that's some of the things I kept on thinking about, like what are the actors thinking of during those very very weird scenes...LOL

Can't wait to watch the rest, but Eraser Head tops the level of weirdness in films, I've seen.

I also kept on thinking, while watching this movie if someone who didn't know me just happened to walk in on any of the scenes in the film, they would seriously think something was wrong...LOL

David Lynch is a SICK @#%!...

I also saw Mulholland Drive, and that was a bit on the Normal side for him I thought.

Quote from Begotten trailer by some critic:

''Makes Eraserhead seem like Ernest saves Christmas.

Not that I agree with it fully, but Begotten is one of final level of weirdness I think.

I got Begotten coz many were talking about it. Now I don't think about Begotten like about film. It is looks like some bizzare home mage random shots.

I second: The Holy Mountain, Schitzopolis, and Naked Lunch.

Why don't you also try: Street Trash, Brain Damage (The Hennenlotter one)

I just saw Across The Universe and thoroughly enjoyed it. It starts off fairly tame, but takes a strong turn in the second half. If you like the Beatles music, it will definitely be a huge plus.

I finally saw everything on my list. And I now want to stay far away from weird movies for a very very very long time.... Don't know what I was thinking when I made this thread, I had no idea there was so much weird stuff out there. The good news is, I'm not in a mental home now.

"Open your eyes" which was remade into the inferior Hollywood version "Vanilla Sky". Does Tom Cruise have to ruin everything???

You have access to The Holy Mountain, I had a PAL transfer to DVD, but it has since been misplaced, guess that coulda been a LossFest submission from me. Do you know where it's available along with any of Jodorowsky's other whacked out flicks? I know there's a couple that he disowned.

Isn't it a little harsh to blame the actor for the decisions of so many other faceless sinners? That's like blaming George Clooney for Batman & Robin, or Johnny Depp for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. You should really blame the hacks that helmed the flicks.

Anything French Canadian - well the ones I've seen anyway.
LEOLO (1992) - is a prime example, loved it.

Also liked the following that have been suggested prior.

Gerry - more hynotic than wierd

American Movie - funny, no make that hilarious, doco on low budget filmmakers that have absolutley no idea. Features a gun toting Ted Nugent (70's rock star)

Bad Boy Bubby - One of my favourite Aussie movie's. I met the actor that played Bubby. He was judging at a film festival that our first ever film was screening at. We didn't win but made top10.

I actually loved Vanilla Sky, though I admit the original "Open Your Eyes" acting was much better, but I didn't think Vanilla Sky was that far from the original, I loved it.

And yes, the 80's were the best!!!!

Penelope Cruz gets a pass since she was in both films. Everyone else gets the blame. Agreed.:)
