Got my HVX today did some test

I disagree. I think the HD version looks better. There's more detail in it, even with it compressed down. In FCP are you viewing the HD version at 100%? If you try to scaling the SD version up to HD you'll see a huge difference.

Yeah

Yeah

Yes it looks a little better but when you output it to regular dvd, it looks the same. I just thought it was going to blow away sd but it didn't

When you output it to regular DVD you are down converting it to SD.

Yeah

Yeah

Yep, however when you down convert it should still look a lot better,
The orginal source file is better, it's like saying when you shoot on 35mm Film and downconvert to dvd it looks like mini dv, it still looks like it was shot on 35, this dosen't look like it was shot in such hire quality

well...i think in this case you are wrong...!
The reason why 35mm downconverted looks so good on your dvd is, that the cam gave a different DOF, and mostly, that there has been the colour room to CC the footage in a proper way(well..and a lot of more reasons...).

But the result on your DVD is still SD, even if it was 35mmonce....so comparing to your situation, the HD footage still has more colour and pixel information(you would see the difference on a big screnn or a blow up...), but if you record tarsh(dont mean your footage, havent checked it..)it sill looks like trash(meaning light, coulours, DOF and so on...) it wount get better just because its HD...!

What i wanna say is that you even can record to 35mm and it looks like trash, you just need the right lightning ad the right porproduction(Colour correction!), so your DVD footage will look much better.....try try and try!

What I did were just point a shoot quick test,
Filmed the same situation, no light no set no setup, I wanted to keep the same look to compare it. Film garbage get gabage you are 100% Right however the garbage in HD should still look better.
