I've been testing my HVX and Brevis setup for a week or two and I'm learning some difficult lessons. Critical focusing is damn tough when even when stopped down a little - I've wasted a lot of shots not getting focus right - working off the lcd with focus assist is possible, but not easy. Might have to get the Marshall after all. Though part of my issue here may be due not having the Brevis set up properly.
Also learnt that it's a good idea to spend a fair chunk of change on your lenses, and do your research. My 24mm 2.8 Nikkor has nasty barrel distortion, so it's not going to get much use for master shots (or any shots). I haven't been able to nail focus with it either...everything looks soft regardless of f stop. More testing ahead. The 50mm is a 1.8 and seems to being a goob job for a cheapy, as is the 85mm 2.0 (both manual focus). I'm curious to know how much observable difference thare is between these and the primes which can run into the hundreds per lens. I picked up my 3 lenses at KEH.com as "bargains" for a total of $330. Oh yeah, even though they're rated as bargains they seem to be flawless (in terms of condition).
I'm also putting more consideration into exposure. Normally on the stock HVX if part of the frame was blowing I'd just put up with it (assuming my subject was correctly exposed). However to my eye out of focus blown out areas when using the adapter just look butt ugly. So I'm starting to consider compostion and filters more than before. Using an adapter is definately forcing me to lift my game.
