"PHANTOM" -- a film by AJ Brooks

Aj

This film was solid solid solid.

The camera work, editing, lighting (phenomenal lighting) and performances. Everything works for me.

The opening shot, with the little girl and then slamming into present day .... i got so caught up in the storyline (and world) that when we come back the to the train tracks, I had forgotten all about it.

I have really nothing to negatively remark on this one; It's too good.

Your use of wides is a nice nice touch and the stabilized camera, the Dutch shots, awesome visual story telling.

My highest ranking thus far !

Congrats AJ. I had a really good time working on the couple of shots for this, thanks for letting me on board.

Having seen a bunch of the shots at 4480x1920 and spent a lot of time on every frame I can easily say Ryan's cinematography on this is amazing. The super compressed MP4 available in the contest is but a pale shadow of the actual plates. If there was a prize for cinematography he should win it, by several miles. I personally can't wait to see the real final graded version.

Thanks for the kind words. :) The VFX you've done are very impressive as well. Especially with the train sequence. I've shown it to several people and not told them bout the VFX, only that we stole the train sequence, and they are impressed that we got those train shots. So they completely buy that the train is there. (We did steel the train shots, but we shot when there were no trains anywhere in sight, and had people on look out to keep us all safe.)

While it is a bummer that the graded version did not make it up online for the festival (There were problems with the export as noted earlier.). I am happy with what was submitted as I try to get things 90% of the way there in camera. The grade takes it to the next level IMO as it pushes what I did in camera even further.

I wished those two train shots had made it into the Thrillfest version, but there just wasn't time to get them right. A day on the set only lasts a day, but post is forever.

And then just a few more tweaks. :)

this one was my fav. i particularly liked the double meaning of the title. also the first time we see the guy in the hallway legitimately freaked me out.
