I don't know, I hope that Panasonic will make some good solution. It would be good if they will implement a MFT lens mount with S35 sensor, and find a way to operate zoom with their lenses. I'm not expert, but maybe it's possible.

Sounds like the JVC LS300. M43 mount with s35 sensor. You can put any lens on it that can be adapted, even old manual nikkor lenses on it and you can use the rocker to have a relative amount of "zoom", which is not optical but called a "Variable sensor remapping."
JVC is owned by same company as Panasonic though.

Not ideal but not a deal breaker either. I'm using one now on my C100 MKI and it's acceptable.

I'm glad that we have quality third party "universal" VF's. I have a Graticle that I use on my C300 and the image quality is very good, but they are a pain and not as good as a good "native" VF. Power, signal, display information, integration/mounting on the body: all issues I have with third party units.

This camera looks more or less identical to the DVX200 on the rear part so I wouldn't be surprised if it took the same type of batteries.
By the looks of it it is a Varicam LT/DVX200 hybrid.

I guess the EVF on the C100 mkII is useable but for some jobs I have just a mkI to work with.

Useless for shoulder mounted handheld though. I shot interviews all this afternoon down on Hollywood Blvd. for an upcoming PBS American Masters. The Zacuto EVF Pro worked like a champ. That's the problem with the Canons, the EVF is totally in the wrong spot for the C100MKII, C300, C300 MKII. The only one that makes sense is the C700 EVF. They all should have a version of that, all of the lower line Canons. No more Zacuto Franken Rigs but that's what we are stuck with for now.

Panasonic released its ownership in 2007.

Just got some info that tells me this camera is very similar to the FS5 in design with things like detachable LCD screen and moveable either to the rear of the camera or in the front. To bad there's no good EVF.

OK, that's enough. With that one I'm outing you.

I emailed with Osslund privately a few days back. Like many of you, some of his guesses had some accuracy and others did not. But I was concerned because he was posting as if he was a firm authority with special access to information. In fact he admitted to me that he had "no inside information" but considers himself "a good teller of things to come and can see into the future using my gathered knowledge."

I'm all for educated guesses, and like I said before I encourage active discussions. But if something is a guess then it should be presented as such, because it can confuse others. Let's just be honest and upfront, ok? We have four weeks to go until Panasonic officially previews the camera, and then y'all can check your scores and begin guessing about more stuff until the camera ships in the fall.

Here, let me fix that one for you:

There, was that so hard?

43Rumors have a rumored price of $6,500. Specs are basically as been bandied about -s35, EF, 10-bit 4:2:2 internal.

But it's a low rated rumor. It's rated about as real as Bill O'Reilly leaving Fox.

throw enough specs, one is bound to stick XD

I wonder if panny "get" that many many people own fs7/5 and the camera will need to be extremely good or have a must have element (500fps) to persuade us to trade away from those cameras.

An fs7 0.5 kg lighter and $2k cheaper is not really enough especially if one needs to buy a new speedbooster and new media.

How well would the LT. have sold if it was laumched within a month of the 5/55? I guess I would have one.

AFAIK speed booster won't work if the camera is an S35 sensor with an EF mount. Which could put Panny at a disadvantage to Sony FS7/FS5, as those e-mounts allow speedboosters to be utilized

I guess it's only expected to get a lot of speculation and rumours when something is previewed without specs. It comes with the territory and it's fun to try to guess and puzzle until the truth is revealed. Now there are a lot of information to be pulled from various sources and that draws me to certain conclusions. If it's spot on or not who knows? But it's fun to narrow it down and when it's revealed one can check how many things that actually was true.

I'm sorry if Mitch perceives it like I'm a Panasonic source. I'm not. I'm just like the rest of us.

Filmguy. (lack of boster) Completely - especially in the 7-10$g body zone where pl zoom are probably out of budget... Leaving stills glass or Emount fuji zooms!

I've thought about my upgrade path and what the cameras offered - major step ups that made my life/production better..

5d2-fs100 gave me xlr
Fs100-pmwf3 gave me Nd and 10bit out
F3-fs7 gave me onboard 10bit speedbooster and hfr.

Each upgrade was significant. Mainly in improving work flow or meaning I could carry less mass!

What can tempt me to upgrade?
12 bit ?
500p ?
Or losing 2kg?
Adult Autofocus?
Amazing Wifi (try a dji)?
(Tcode jam)

5% nicer image and lost speedbooster? Inability to buy fuji XK.. Not so much!

Yes, and another reason I thought an interchangeable EF-MFT mount could be so cool, as you could potentially leave the camera in full s35 mode but use an MFT mount with speed boosted glass.

As usual, in order to succeed with DVXUsers, this camera must be all things to all users or it will be an abject failure. I'm sure Mitch and Co. whiteboarded the heck out of this new camera before committing to any specs and design goals. They see a niche or need in the market and will spec this camera out and build it accordingly. If the market agrees with their study, the camera will be a big seller and a major success. If they are living in a bubble or are held back by economics or marketing issues, like Canon always seems to be, the camera may not hit the mark. With it's tremendous resources, Canon is 100% capable of utterly dominating any class of professional camera but they don't for various marketing and marketing segmentation rules within their organization. They typically over price and under spec their cameras, but they have beautiful color science, tens of millions of EF lenses out in the world, DPAF and workhorse reliability that most other brands lack. So they still succeed ultimately, even though some of their marketing decisions infuriate us.

Panasonic seems to have temporarily lost their position as a market leader in pro video. They still make great cameras but I personally feel they missed the boat on large sensor professional cameras. Think about the HVX200 (which was a huge success), HPX170, HPX300, HPX370 string of cameras, all with tiny 1/3" sensors . At the time these cameras were hitting the market, Sony was already pushing larger 1/2" sensors with the EX-1, EX-3, etc. Panasonic did well with the GH4 and will do well with the GH5 but that is a consumer camera, not really a pro level camera although many pros utilize them. But at under $2k at a time, that camera is not making huge fortunes for Panasonic, I doubt the margins are as high since the camera is so spec heavy. The DVX-200 is a cool camera but fixed lens fails to ignite most of our passion, although it does well with the wedding and event crowd. I really hope this new camera has a newly designed sensor or utilizes the Varicam LT sensor. If it is S35, it will look good and will have the FOV and DOF we want but if the color science is the same as the DVX200 and GH5, a lot of us will lose interest. Really, really hope it has the Varicam LT color science instead. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Mitch and Co. have up their sleeve. They know what they need to succeed in the market, it just remains to be seen if they hit the mark.

You'd better be silent

The problem is you write your speculation as if it were fact. You've even mentioned "I've heard" and "my source" several times. Saying "it is" and "it will be" is different from saying "it might be" or "i hope it is".

Pure drifting.

I think all of the cameras currently have no spec - no white boarding !

That is half the problem they nearly do everything but not quite.

Much easier to accept a camera that is just not for you. For example the full varicam and f65 seem excellent motion picture cameras - great but not for me. GoPro -handy actioncam - great

The upper mids fall in a hole on occasion - Mainly a hole dug by lack of zooms costed in line with the camera. Zooms having a métier on midrange commercial production. Hollywood and students have time to tinker with primes :)

Sony have addressed this and panny would need to too.
