AC130: Panasonic ag ac130

Interesting -- an Engineering Sample is not typically something that someone would post footage from. You can likely expect that the final production models will produce better-looking footage. I don't know the exact definition of when something is classified as an Engineering Sample, but I've always understood it to mean that the engineers bolted it together and it's really, well, an "alpha" state of the camera. Then comes the PL Sample, which is a "beta", and then the final version gets shipped as a production model. So an Engineering Sample is a pretty early model and usually doesn't have all the features enabled or fine-tuned.

So, does this footage mean that the AF160/130 are going to be capable of some DOF, or was that done in post as well?

Shallow DOF has always been possible with Panasonic's 1/3" chip cameras, you just have to zoom in and shoot with as open an aperture as possible.

Right -- it just takes some distance. You can't get the effect in a tight room, but if you can get some separation between you and your subject, and separation from your subject and its background, you can get shallow DOF on a small-chip camera.

I understand that, but that footage posted above shows DSLR-like DOF. Just wondering if it was done in post or not.

The footage appears to be the results of a wide opened zoomed in shot with the separation between subject and background.

I'm not certain how those shots can be achieved in post. Doesn't the 250/160/130 cams all have 22x zooms?

Actually, being close to a small subject gives very shallow DoF. If you don't believe me try the 151 in macro mode on a small subject an inch or two away from the glass, the DoF is miniscule!

The closer you are to the subject the shallower, assuming everything else stays the same. But of course shortening the focal length to widen the angle of view as you get closer negates the effect.

The shots in this clip look perfectly normal for a 1/3 camera to me. Nothing special in terms of DoF.

Thanks for watching! I wanted to do some low light or candle light as well as some high contrast and shots of tight fabric patterns but I looked around the shop and didn't have many resources. Maybe they'll show up with the HPX250 next week...

Did you guys shoot any VFR footage when you had the AC160?
