AC130: Panasonic ag ac130

Random trivia here related to pockets. When Sony invented the first "Pocket" transistor radio in the late 50s early 60s, it wouldn't quite fit in a standard shirt pocket. So Sony had shirts made for their sales people with pockets large enough to accommodate the radio, and it was a huge success.

Sorry for hijacking the thread :)

The shirts or the radio?

As an FYI/warning to those who mail in the postcard for the free book...the USPS has raised the price of stamps since the cards were packaged and there is now insufficient postage on it.

OK... here:

I need to bring the lense hood cap with me when shopping for new shirts now. After reading your post I had to try and it just doesn't fit in the shirt I'm wearing now. On a recent outdoor wedding I stuffed it in my pants pocked but didn't pay attention and put it in with the four extruding corners facing my leg. After a few min of running around, that got a little uncomfortable.

Slightly on topic: I just read through this entire thread since I have a HMC150 and think I will pick up an ac130 when funds allow. I saw some very pricey SD cards being thrown around. Holy cow. I shoot on a group of class 4 Sandisk Ultra cards. I average about 7MB/s write speed which is about 56Mb/s and they are very reliable. More than enough to cover PH mode's max of 24Mb/s. Still plenty to cover AVCHD Progressive. With redundant slots, why anyone would pay big money for fast cards on an AVCCAM is beyond me.

P2 cards are 4 SD cards in some form of Raid 0 I believe internaly packed into a PCMCIA card. that's what makes them so fast (for the time they were brought out) and expensive. I'd imagine Panasonic uses their best SD cards. I just wish PCMCIA readers in laptops didn't go the rout of the Dodo birds and Firewire.

A hacked GH2 can run AVC-Intra (Or at least all I-Frame AVCHD) at massive data rates on UHS 1 SD cards. Unfortunately it is 8bit 420 still and a DSLR form factor. Still, its interesting and a cheap way to get decent intra footage. I myself value colorspace over the I-frames for what I shoot. I haven't had a long GOP issue in editing since leaving HDV tape (Good riddance).

On the CMOS issue: I was initially very scared of CMOS. My experience with CMOS video shooting was some Flip-video like thing, a Nikon D3100 and all the rolling shutter video on Vimeo. I recently borrowed a friend's GH2 for a shoot and after a couple hours spent getting used to shooting on a DSLR thought... Wait a second, where is the rolling shutter issue? I had no noticeable skew from shooting handheld, stedicam or shoulder rig. To me, on that cam, it was a non-issue. I think Jan has alluded that the AC130 would have even less issue if the GH2 is considered consumer and has a slower clock. I can't stand flash banding at all but most people that I know have no problems and don't notice it.
