Panasonic AF101 Footage

Someone posted a good question on the vimeo page, "Is there a button on the body to enable OIS directly within the camera body so we don't have to rely on lenses w/ OIS", the answer was he thinks so. That didn't occur to me until now, I really hope that the AF100 body has it built in.

No in-body. The OIS button is to control lenses that do have it.

Sorry, not gonna get the files today. Edit suites are in booked and i've got no way of getting into the one thats got the footage on it.

that and im in the middle of onlining a show that goes to TX tomorrow.. so yea. Mad dash to the network.

Hey Joe,

Looks great! Thanks so much for posting and the great writeup!

I was wondering about the scene in the restaurant - specifically the widest shot with the back-lit window and the actors in silhouette: was that all natural light or did you light the room at all? Was there a ND film on the glass or did you do anything to cut down that light?

Joe,

Interesting write-up and a very valid point - this pretty much sets the "bar" for the camera in terms of quality, at least at a prototype phase. The best lenses, the best compression scheme.

Thanks for taking the time to post all of this up. I think we can wait until you have some spare time to post that RAW footage...at least a couple of months, anyway

Wow, I'm gonna have to get used to how sharp that is. I'm so used to 35mm adapters soft image. Almost to sharp, but I like it.

I can't remember, does this cam have built in mics or is it XLR only?

No artificial light was used in the restaurant scene. All natural. No ND anywhere. We didnt even have permission to shoot there haha!

yup, XLR inputs.. ah i didnt see an internal mic anywhere.. the entire handle comes off.. so there isnt one in there.

all sound in the video was recorded in camera via our soundie.

I don't want to put a damper on the party but please know that the camera is still not done. And once the AVCHD files are posted, just know that it isn't finished.

But back to the party, it does look good. Went to Zacuto yesterday and they were so much fun. The kept dressing her up with so many things. I think they will be posting a video sometime soon.

Best,

Jan

Hey Guys,

Sorry to do this to you, but i have just had a few conversations with Panasonic NZ, Japan & USA and they have asked us not to post any Native AVCHD files.

This is solely due to the fact that this camera is still a prototype and releasing raw files now might give an inaccurate representation of what this camera is capable of.

I completely understand where Panasonic are coming from and i hope you guys do as well, Panasonic gave us a lot of freedom to be allowed to post these first pictures and I am going to respect their wishes.

I hope you guys understand.

Joe

Too bad - I think most people here understand the nature of a prototype and that if anything, it'll only really get better, but I suppose it's company policy and all that...

Bummer. Joe could post frame grabs of the any significantly dark shots to give us idea of well the codec performs? thanks.

Very very interesting. The raw files, just like the hacked GH1, will show the true detail present in the video. This camera was already a must buy, this just makes the wait harder
