Panasonic AF101 Footage

Very encouraging. Nice work considering the time constraints you were under. Thanks for sharing.

Coming from shooting with a 7D, this is very encouraging footage. The motion artifacting and jello are almost non-existant.
Yeah I'm encouraged as well. Doesn't look like like any appreciable jello in this stuff, but nothing in any of this material moves very fast.

Very nice looking, and still the prototype!
So you shot 1080 25p, but edited/uploaded 720p?

How did you WB? Was it dialed in- is this how the cool look of the first location was achieved, since it's ungraded footage?

You say (on the Vimeo page) "This is a prototype, so there were some technical issues, Panasonic assured us that it would be rectified in the production model. Our test scenes had to be limited to indoor locations as a consequence. It was a temperature related issue."

Were there any issues other than heat?

Thanks for the real-production-world test, Joe!

Wow, that looks good! Maybe I will just not care about it not being a P2 cam and sell my HPX171 to get the AF101!

I'll answer everyones questions once i've had some coffee.. but groveChuck, no, that lovely blue was achieved with none other than Auto WB..

We had a lot of things to figure out and turning the WB display on just didnt end up happening.. i asked the Op half way through soon the scene what he was shooting at and he couldnt tell me.

Oh well, its actually a damn good auto white balance if you ask me! 5pm on a cold winters day.

Would love to have seen some outdoors footage aswell.

Tell me about it, our first location was up a volcano in Auckland, but it was about 10 degrees C. The camera had a few temperature issues.. and we were unable to shoot. Panasonic NZ and the Japan Rep noted everything that happened down.

Some raw AVCHD for download would be great, too.

And just so I understand...the footage posted here was shot on the following pieces of equipment:

AF-100 - $5000
HPG-20 - $4500
PL Mount - $? - HotRod Camera PL Mount
24mm Zeiss UP - $200 Rental
50mm Zeiss UP - $200 Rental
85mm Zeiss UP - $200 Rental

Right?

RAW AVCHD will come when i get my hands on the files today.

Yes that equipment list is correct.

Is there a differentiation between what footage went externally to AVC-Intra and what was in-camera to AVCCAM?

There is a different yes. But a 76mbps different? Not by a long shot. The AVCHD held its own and the DP was VERY impressed.

Did you use any shoulder mount/rig accessories when you guys shot this or was it strictly camera in hand?

All hand held. We even took the hand grip off as we thought we were going to be shooting sticks mostly. We mounted the Radio receiver to the Shoe mount behind the grip.. and then just left it there so the Op had to handle it without a grip.

Refreshing to see an actual production and not just someones backyard + kid.

Cheers

This test just made the camera even more tasty. Stores in Sweden says December 1st so with a bit of luck I can get it before years end.
Let's hope for more test footage soon. :)

just curious...did you have to get special permission from Panasonic to post these images?
By the way...thanks for confirming that I made an awesome purchasing decision!
