hello.

when is the 64GB P2 coming out? will it be together with the HPX170? Does any one have a good guess to what it might cost? will you think P2 prices will drop a bit with this new introduction?

Thanks to all.

when i bought my camera last year the person selling it said it would be out within months.

Obviously the card is great if you want to do long takes and don't have time to offload constantly, but for the expected price I would gander that it would be around 2 grand.
That's a lot of eggs to have in one basket for the cost.

As far as P2 sales go, the camera is in high demand from post-grad college students and small production companies. Since there is no competitor outside of Panasonic, I would say no.

The only advice i could give is that some people might be dishing off their extra p2s due to strike, red camera, sony.

Each time a new card comes out the others seem to drop to about 65% of their previous price in my experience. The new ones come out at a premium price.

So far it seems that they are released about 9 -12 monthly.

Best value is waiting and not rushing in. Maybe two cards is better than one for workflow, efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Thank you guys.

I think I'll hang and wait for that since it seems like I should try to save some $$ anyway I can.

a little off topic if you don't mind... got my eye on the new 200a..specially since it looks like the 170 will go for 6k...again I need to save any way I can or I'll be in debt forever.

Does the new 200a have any improvement on pulling manual focus compare to the 200? I never use either so I don't know how bad it is really...but I heard so much from reading other people. will it be that bad that I have to get external monitor for sure? that will not be good for me, I think.

thanks to all of you.

dont cut cost there. the hpx170 is the way to go hands down. It's not that much more for what you get. And it will originally retail for $6k you'll be able to get it cheaper soon after.

No official announcement has been made as to what the HPX170 will cost.

The 200A's LCD is improved somewhat versus the original 200, and will be better for seeing if you're in sharp focus. The 170 is improved quite a bit from the 200A.

That's my understanding as well.

Which makes it a little peculiar that BH has the 170 on its web site for pre order at $5995.00

Do you really think B&H will make up some price that doesn't exist? hard to believe I find... I guess Jan will know, don't you think?

Barry, thanks for LCD info.

Yes, I do believe that price is made up.

I know for a fact that no pricing has been set. One of the largest East Coast sellers of these cameras confirmed it on Wednesday, and Barry has confirmed it as well.

So yes, it isn't that hard to believe at all.

Does this mean that the 170 will not be pal /ntsc swichatble.
I believe that BH wants us to know that they will stacking plenty of 170's once they come out.
