Official NextFest Thread

I could go for a spoof fest, or just in general making fun of something. I already have a script for a short, and I should be shooting it within the next two weeks. (I'm trying to get it done before school starts :()

Bah, too much conversation, come on Barry or Jarred, just go ahead and announce it! Jarred didn't wait for any kind of consensus for SpyFest, he just plucked one option.

SpoofFest would be ok. I could definitely do a Western. I think that would be cool. I just couldn't get into AdFest — so whatever is chosen, I hope it's something I can get into and feel good about.

I'll announce after we've wrapped AdFest. We've pretty much locked in the next fest, but these threads are helpful for planning future fests. There are some great ideas here and people should think twice about passing on fests that aren't in their comfort zone. I generally shoot for a unifying theme that gives you guys some flexibility.

Don't mean to be an @ss hole here,

But am I the only guy who doesn't really know what the big deal about Edgar Poe is? I studied him in English on the story of Hop Frog... i don't know. I mean I've read up on the guy and everything but out of all the writers for poems and short stories out there etc, why him? I don't understand is there something i'm not getting?

Three words.
Public Domain
Horror.
(albeit gothic)

In other words, a genre that's popular around here, something to unify the films, and we could try our hand at adaptation.

That's all.

And I would expect people to take a very broad interpretive, rather than period or straight, approach.

Start ticking down the list of authors you would rather do and I bet almost all or all of them will not be possible to use because the copyrights are still privately held.

But don't worry. It won't be Poe Fest or Poe Lovecraft fest I'm sure.

I would hope so... A total free hand. I mean, look at the film "Clueless" -- that's an adaptation of Jane Austen's "Emma". Or, for a more hybrid adaptation, there's Baz Luhrman's Romeo + Juliet, where he modernized everything except kept the dialogue the same. Countless films we've all seen in the theater have been broad adaptations of Shakespeare plays or other historic works, but if you don't keenly know the story beats of Othello or whatever it is that they adapted, you'd never know you were watching an adaptation...

Pitch Fest would leave it open Genre and add another dimension to the content: seeing the producer(s) pitch the idea as if they were trying to raise interests or funds for a real feature length.

I like the sound of PitchFest the best. Look, I'm a poet and didn't know it.

PoeFest would also be cool.

Ah i see, understand now. Thanks.

Nothing against any fest idea, i was just a little confused. =]

One day, in a hundred year's, someone will say the same thing about Hemingway or King.
