Official NextFest Thread

I just had a thought. What if we get rid of a theme and just have everyone make whatever genre film they want to, but with certain guidelines or obstructions to show that the filmis made for the festival and not a pre-existing film. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I like that idea. That way if some peeps want to make a horror flick for the Halloween season, that is an option, others could do comedy, etc. That idea has my vote for sure!

I think we may be headed towards a more or less open fest one day.

But my hunch is that for the fest around Halloween it will continue be a sort of tradition to do something horror-ish-y.

Just a hunch. :)

Only real problem with open-fest is that we used to do that and we'd get maybe three or four entries. If y'all are saying you'll enter, then maybe someday we'll do it again... as far as the rules go, it could be as simple as saying "you have to reference DVXUser in some sort of meaningful way" -- like, some character has to wear a DVXUser t-shirt, or one of the characters is surfing the site, or something like that... (i.e., something obviously integrated with the film itself, not spliced into some pre-existing pic).

I'm confident there would be a LOT of entries for an open fest. If there were few before, it was likely before people really even new that DVXuser had film fests/competitions. For example, I didn't know about them until ZombieFest, which to my recollection was the first that many became aware, simply because of the increased advertising, banners, etc.

I'd enter for open fest for sure .... there would just likely need to be some various categories for best comedy, drama, horror, etc. with an overall 'grand jury award', or something similar, IMO.

I'm game for either an open fest or a Horror-ish-y-Fest. In fact, I have a horror film idea, though it incorporates a few other genres.

Hi,

the only other problem I see with an open fest, is how do you judge it?

When there are rules pertaining to type of movie, characters, etc... you can compare apples with apples.

i like the themed fests, but that's my personal opinion.

thanks,
Derrick

I have to agree that OpenFest, though it would be fun, would create difficulty in judging.

I think a horror type fest would be best also. Maybe not necessarily 'horror' but something along those lines.

ScaryFest would be better than HorrorFest (though a much worse name). I'd rather make something of a tense thriller than true "horror."

Some people just have a strong sense of what they think is horror, and if a film doesn't fit it exactly, they will criticize it.

It would suck to loose our Halloween tradition. I get more excited over Halloween fests than any other.

Everyone chant with me "Halloween Fest! Halloween Fest! Halloween Fest!"

ah horrorfest... the first fest i ever entered =)

contrary to popular opinion, i vote for a comedy fest. but then again, what would halloween be like if we were all just laughing our asses off at some funny movies. perhaps we could fuse horror and comedy... horrorcomedy.

hahaha. chew on that and then let me know how bad of an idea it is. ;)

I'm more into comedy now.. it's been long awaited. Maybe we coult start two fests at once, horror and ..whatever, just the..whatever one goes on longer than the horror one. But that may be complicated. Wow i talk crap.

Besides, the decision's released tonight. They've already decided. =] Although it is nice to think of new ideas..

what about FightFest? Would be nice to see some martial arts. Or maybe Speedfest, like every entry must be fast paced, like the movie crank. That would be a fun fest, every movie had to be 5 min and it had to be 5 min in the movie like the series 24.
