What are everyone's thoughts as to the next DVXFest? I've gone through some of the previous threads and have a few ideas of my own, but I'd like to hear you guys throw down some thoughts before I lock in the next one.
 
I'd be a huge fan of FantasyFest, personally. Not restricted to traditional fantasy -- anything ranging from fairy tales to magical realism.

This would be great too, seeing as though Sci-Fi Fest was before my time here!
 
1) HorrorFest(2) -- for Halloween release DVD.


2) SciFest(2) -- The fans are calling for it.


3) MovieFest -- 5 Minute short film with three hardcore specifics, open to any Genre you want to make it. But HARDCORE stipulations. Like a guy with a nametag that plainly says MICHAEL BADASSERY and a girl with a PURPLE WIG.


4) PitchFest -- 2 Minute sizzle reel of you pitching your movie. Must contain at least 15 seconds of Director or Producer talking about the movie and it's concept (talking head format). The rest are actual scenes from your movie i.e Cut aways to action, drama, etc.
 
Oh man...HeistFest would be really fun too! I think it's distinct enough from SpyFest, too. The emphasis, of course, would be more Ocean's Eleven/Resevoir Dogs than James Bond/Bourne Identity.
 
I second macgregor.

But in all honesty I would love to do a heist film. Every guy wants to be part of a heist.
 
Western would be way cool. Not saying I have the time / resources to make a western right now, but it's a genre that I'd love to play in.
 
Oh, what about DocFest (Doctor Fest)

Nah, you would have an unfair advantage. I mean how would we know you shot it for the contest :)
  1. SUSPENSE FEST or THRILLER FEST : Leave the gore off screen (or not) and put the emphasis on camera work, the conceit, the story telling.
  2. PULP FEST: Funky crime genre.
  3. CRIME FEST: Less fun than pulp fest, more open.
  4. DETECTIVE FEST: Like spy fest can feature any kind of detective or detection. Hardboiled American detectives, British Tea Cosy detectives, amateur detectives. All are welcome.
  5. POE FEST: Adapt an Edgar Allen Poe poem or short story.
  6. GOTHIC FEST: Horror with an emphasis on style and the macbre. Think Dracula and Frankenstein, Edgar Allen Poe.
  7. THEME FEST: Any genre. Like Tropfest in New York / Australia. Last year for the New York one you had to have a man hole cover. This year you have to have a slice of pizza in your film. We could start a thread where everybody puts theme ideas and then the mods pick one. It could be an object, a quote, anything.
  8. ACTION FEST.
 
I vote for Docufest
If not then:
-Trailer fest - make a cool trailer for fictional movie a la Grindhouse
-Green fest - films about environment etc.
-Green fest - whole movie shot on green screen
-Solo fest - a film made by yourself, no crew or actors

Just trying out some different options.....
 
I like the "Movie-fest" that Kholi mentioned. I also like action/adventure genre. I also would like the twist-ending fest that Larry R mentioned.

Solo-fest is a cool idea, as is Gothic Fest.
 
I think someone mentioned this one last time, but how about One-Take fest? 5 minute film, no cuts. Blocking that sucker would be a grand challenge:)
 
I think something like romantic comedy or something with relationships. Getting tired of the shoot-em up stuff. It would be a great exercise for character development and relations. I know this board is mostly filled with younger guys that just want to blow sh!t up and shoot everything in site but lets make another challenge like Drama fest was. It seemed drama fest stumped most people so why not practice what needs to be worked on. Then after that we can blow sh1t up again.
 
If you do Romantic... I don't think it should be restricted to comedy. Just open Romance.
 
PsychoFest! Sorry, I think I've mentioned it before but it could cover killers, delinquents etc.

FutureFest sounds alright good.
