I like adaptation-fest. The reason I said Poe is that it is public domain and would unify it. But as long as we were careful about rights - either public domain or you have to have the rights to it, it could work.

I also second the idea about anything that gets into relationships and not so much shoot em up.

We already did Drama fest, but it seems like everything that doesn't fit into a broader entertainment genre falls into Drama Fest.

Family Film Fest? I'd actually think that could be cool ... as for resale DVD's, etc. I also think there'd be a surprisingly large market for a bunch of shorts that fell in that catagory.

I'm surprised I've not seen much on here for comedy fest. I'm punching forward with BERLIN (aiming for October production - will have some gorgeous fall colors for the exterios because of it too), so it'll have to be a completely new fest for me to really want to get into it (i.e. no repeats of HorrorFest, SciFest, etc.).

Just my two cents ...
 
I would also love to see a pole with perhaps ten choices. I'd also like it to be a bit more specific than just comedy or horror. For example instead of horror fest it could be UndeadFEST etc.
 
Someone mentioned earlier on MockumentaryFest - I think that would be fun to do. But then again, this past one was the fourth one I intended to do and didn't get into, so I wouldn't necessarily count my vote too much!!!!
 
I looked through the suggestions we have so far and there are a lot of good ones however I think I would like FutureFest or HeistFest. HorrorFest would be fun as well as PoeFest (I think I could do a lot with that one.) Anyway AdFest was my first and now I'm ready for more so whatever it is I'll be there!
 
FutureFest and HorrorFest 2 are the most appealing to me...but a lot of good ideas are being thrown out.
 
I'll put it another pitch for NoirFest. Yes, I know, Noir is a style, which is why it's such a great fest idea! We've never done a style-based fest! It's open to any genre...

If not Noir, then what about a OneTakeWonderFest? We could do it in the two-month timeframe that we did AdFest!?
 
how bout TV Pilot fest, where everyone creates their own 5-10min webisode with no guidelines on genre, etc. I've been wanting to create a web show for a while now and will probably do so for my next project. To me this sounds like it could be a good change of pace and really put the focus on the writing and directing and not so much on production value and special effects.

This idea has been kicking around in my head for a while now. You beat me to it.

I'd love to do a send-up of all those great Shaw Brother's films from the 70's. (Oh, but where to find an authentic Shaolin temple in Connecticut?)

I'd be game for MusicalFest, though with regards to any potential DVD Sales (for Jarred), I'm not sure there'd be a big market for it ... and the production that would have to go into one of those (to do it well) is HUGE, so I'd be afraid of it competing too much with other things I need to get done. Hmmm.
 
I would think the next fest should be along the halloween lines, since that's about when it'll wrap up, and frankly I think we get our best turnouts when the genre spins towards zombies & vampires & horror. Although we did get a very strong turnout for sci-fest too...

I'd love to see some variety, whether musicals or westerns or whatever. Whatever theme we go with (if we go with a theme) shouldn't preclude those options though -- I mean, if it was truly a ZombieFest, you should feel free to make a zombie musical or a zombie western or a zombie detective noir film. Nothing about the zombie theme should strictly dictate that it be a horror movie. Zombie comedy? Zombie romance? Zombie buddy cop movie? Zombie spy movie? Zombie mockumentary? Zombie TV commercial for Kinetica (ooh, got one, thanks).

Point is -- we try to pick these fests to foster creativity. Step outside the normal limits and make something awesome. Whether we specify it's zombies or musicals or drama or... well, you get the idea. Barry_S will specify some specific rules that all films must adhere to, of course, but as long as you meet the letter of the law, the rest is really up to you. If someone wants to make a musical, there's almost no genre or theme we could pick that would preclude them from making a musical, y'know?
