I don't have an A7 here to test, but if that is the case it is not following Sony's S-Log2 spec. That sounds as if the signal is being scaled to fit in the 0-100 IRE range. Have you double-checked you do not have "Legalize HDMI" switched on in your Odyssey, which will perform this scaling.I have tested s-log2 on my Sony A7s and it definitely clips below 100 IRE ( about 98 IRE ) irrespective of the level of overexposure. It also clips blacks at about 10 IRE irrespective of the level of underexposure.
Extended range does NOT mean it handles values outside the 0-100 IRE range. The exact opposite in fact. It means it uses the whole range from 0-1023 to represent 0-100 IRE, so CANNOT represent anything outside that range. Why would you create an extended range LUT for this camera ?
I think I need to write a document on the subject of legal and extended range and LUTs, so I can point people to that when they misunderstand. I have explained a number of times in this thread, but I realise I can't expect everybody to read every post I make.
