FS7: New FS7 little brother?

I was guessing surely the lack of XDCA-like raw output in the FS700/FS7 to the Odyssey Q7+ licence on this new camera, but your insight tells me it might come from being informed as a company there's an additional model to include in the license support:beer:

I'd be surprised if it had an SDI connection at all but your comments make me wonder :)

HDMI only, but will support 4K Prores over HDMI my guess, no raw as the camera won't have SDI or raw recording over any form IMHO

I would really love it if they put the A7s sensor in a smaller FS7 body for b-cam and night-ops with run & gun portability.

Shooting wildlife and animals in 200.000 ISO during moonlight. Now that would sell.

My dream for Sony's new FS camera: A cinema camera that actually has beautiful colors and motion (like F65, Alexa, Blackmagic cameras, Digital Bolex), pretty much the same specs as C100mk2 but with at least 2K and complete enough package so the price of the camera doesn't suddenly double because of all the accessories I have to get. I don't care about RAW. Mechanical shutter would be great.
That would be at the NAB'16 and priced at $15,000 (just to squeeze by C300 MKII ... after which, Canon will promptly lower its model tag down a grand).

Likely an a7s hybrid solution.. I don't see any reason for the a7s to have a successor with all the features they crammed into the a7r II.

Looking at it in two ways. What would be between the FS700 and FS7 and what is the competition in this range. 4k internal recording at 50/60P UHD 8 bit 4:2:0 XAVC-L like the Z100 would put it between the FS700 and FS7. Competition in terms of JVC LS300 limited to 30P , DVX200 fixed lens.

My guess is interchangeable lens version with specs similar to PXW-Z100 at a similar price. Maybe a new sensor too. Stay with NP-F type batteries so in the old FS , EA50 and NXcam range not the new PXW range. About $5500 Sony could produce a version for prosumers as well just like FDR-AX1/PXW-Z100 or EA50/FS100.

This camera will probably kill C100mk2, piss off Sony FS7 owners and make those who pre-ordered URSA Mini 4.6K reconsider their decision.

And Alexa65 for $30,000.

(C500 MKII should be out by the NAB'16 - FF, 6K-8K, Raw, "camera shape", 15 stops ... and Sony may introduce something even before that)

Blackmagic URSA65 will be announced at NAB 2016 for 6500 dollars.

Anyway, they said this new FS camera will be "ground breaking". Ground breaking like URSA Mini 4.6K or like DVX200 (it wasn't)?

iyiyi.... I was afraid of getting pissed off after just purchasing the FS7 a couple months ago.. and after owning it, I already wanted this camera to be better in low light and make it easier to use.. I gotten use to the cine ei mode and knowing when I could film in low light and not be able to.. I really like how Canon C100-300 allows the user to go up in iso.

Anyways, would love a FS7 camera, half the size.. go up in iso regardless of being in cine ei mode that is always stuck at iso 2000.... so yea.. I love this camera regardless, but it would make it easier also with my ronin too........kinda mad.. kinda excited.. oh well, thats life.

I don't want that hideous slow rolling shutter sensor in an FS1 cine camera, where s35 (standard) looks a horrible 2.7k upscaled and the only way to shoot 4K is by using Sony's FF lenses or stills glass with an adapter.

The reason the a7s is considered better than fs7 in lowlight is due to the internal heavy NR and 1080p downsampling, but once you record the full sensor potential through HDMI 4K noise is not that better than the fs700/f5 when they're pushed up to high gain/ISO either in-camera or in post, with post NR and 1080p downscaling you get quite the same, it's an amazing low light sensor in the f5, and most importantly the a7s sensor aliases quite badly at 4K.

(understandably, it's more expensive and designed for cinema use on cameras like the F5 not a consumer stills sensor)

I surely hope it's the s35 8mp cine sensor in the fs7/fs700/f5 (4K s35, minimal RS, no aliasing, much higher frame rate capability on sensor readout level (240p), and can go FF with a SB) A much superior sensor for a cinema camera/FS100 successor. Just my cents.

…go up in iso regardless of being in cine ei mode that is always stuck at iso 2000...

That would defeat the purpose of CineEI. CineEI is an alternative way of approaching how you shoot and treat the sensor. You should control the exposure on the sensor via aperture, shutter, filtering or by adding light. You can't really set ISO in CineEI, since the ISO rating in this mode is only a declaration of intent regarding your plans for post.

If you want to "go up in ISO" you should use custom mode on a Sony, guess?

Ive always thought that the A7s and 8bit made it a bit of a dead duck personally - certainly for log which seems to always look odd (can you point me to something pretty?)

A7s proved to me pretty conclusively that 8 bit SLog doesn't work. As for the rolling shutter that can be best described as not fit for purpose.

if the new FSx camera has either of the above traits it'll be a waste of time.

You need to check out Slog Custom - it makes the FS7 good to 8000 ISO while still having all the lovely flex in post and none of the sony 'look'.

To consider the FS7 as a ISO limited camera is just user error.

Theres a good chance for that, as ive just bought the FS7 a mere 2 weeks ago.

But i never considered the C100 or the mk2, so ill probably end up thinking oh well, id still have to get the FS7 to make it do all that i want.

Philip Bloom got great results using it for all the gimbal shots on Wonder List

It will only piss fs7 owners who don't use or need its merits over the new smaller budget version. There WILL be sacrifices, slowmotiom capbability, raw, ProRes, grip, extention for grip, shoulder mount, 4K 60p, SDI output, T/C, Genlock, weaker body, etc, There WILL definitely be something, don't worry.

Even the strongest move in Sony History on the F5 owners, after they actually knew the fs7 they're not disappointed at all. It's a much better body with better menus and side panel, much better LUT support and firmware including Waveforms/iris speed, a heaps stronger lens mount for PL glass, perfect integration with the R5 raw recorder (instead of a XDCA just to get the port then a frankstein Q7 or R5, effectively making the F5 raw capable and fs7 not for many), higher end connections, much more solid body, 3D ready, higher resale value, higher client value, TC in and out, Genlock, more SDI outputs, V-Lock batteries, SR codec, continous future upgrades including DNxHD, longer product life, etc... Don't get disappointed just reading the obvious headline features of a new FS1/FS200 when it comes out, like ''4K recording s35 sensor) and go oh god that's what my F55 does, I am screwed.

I can assure FS7 owners won't be disappointed with a new FS1 or whatever it's called, it will have less features. They can't bring a budget version of the fs7 with the same features as the fs7.
