FS7: New FS7 little brother?

Guesses..

fixed lens -
could be a good thing as they might squeeze out a little more range - could have terrible focus feel rendering it unusable

no 10bit codec

maybe a FF sensor.. making the sony zoom lens actually great

fixed EVF for terrible ergos

no SDI so you cant cure those ergos with an SDi monitor

no raw/prores

Xavc light codec

£3500

Well there is a hole for a camera who's size is minimised but still has sensible audio?

I still find the FS7 to be too big and all the'DSLR' options to be too unusable.

I guess Sony does need something to compete directly with the C100, but then again, given how Sony release their cameras, this is just a likely be a camera that outperforms the FS7 in a cheaper/smaller package with a couple of a annoying handicaps that make the FS7 look like a 'real' camera!

With that in mind, my guess: The forthcoming release of Sony's new camera will be accompanied by an amateurish short film that will be universally hated by all working professionals.

FS700 just had it's price reduced at B&H to $3999. I would bet, this is going to be something that slots in between the FS700 and the FS7 (at least pricewise).
Lets just call it the FS70. It may have all kinds of nuances to it, but that's Sony for you, they release 593489348934 cameras per month or something like that.....
and don't seem to worry about how they compete with the existing lineup of cameras. I remember when the FS7 came out. Sony tried claiming it wasn't
'a replacement' for the FS700. And it didn't have quite as high a frame rate as the FS700 and no 4K HFR, but a better internal codec, form factor, and would
record continuous HFR, so pretty much a replacement, no matter Sony's claim.

Anyways, my guess is the new camera....has HFR (not sure what, but at least 120), shoots 4k (because all the new Sony cameras do) uses some form of XAVC,
(quite possibly the 'worse' of the XAVC versions....I think that is XAVC I but I can't keep it straight between XAVC I and XAVC L), and the big difference, uses a
FF sensor, thereby ensuring Sony sells a crapload of their 28-135 lens. Also, thereby ensuring that although it is not as good as the FS7 in some respects, it
is better in others, which will further confuse us all as we attempt to figure out which camera is the 'best'. Because as we all know....there has to be one
camera to rule them all!

An FS1 CUSTOM mode only.

XAVC-L only 8 bit 4K and HD. If they go 10bit internal they are being very aggressive and Canon is shot out of the water.

No CineEI or SGamut3.cine.

If they really want to balls it up they'll remove the ND filters.

I hope they use XQD media as more people using it might bring other manufacturers in to make it.

It will retain the shutter bug.

I think they can go two ways.. a tool or a toy.

Tool.
big small chip (1inch? MFT)
10bit SlogHD 100mbs to 60p
SDI out
Fixed lens with usable manual focus

Toy
4-2-0 4k no slog
HFR with horrid alaising
no sdi
Fixed lens with sloppy fly by wire focus starting at not wide enough 32mmFF equiv

unlikely

Game changer/FS7 C300killer?
4k 10bit, Slog, FF chip
removable lens

It appears to have a VF like the F3 and LCD screen. No ability for RAW or internal ProRes via extension unit.

I can't see sony delivering anything less than S35 in this range of cameras, I doubt it's FF but would be an interesting move if they did.

420 Slog not so bad if you shoot 4k for HD and wouldn't put me off.

It has been said the FS7 is 2 cameras in one, the custom side and the CineEI side. I expect the new FSx to be the Custom mode as CineEI takes the FS7 into F5/55 territory and Sony surely won't want that creeping down too low. I'd happy to be wrong.

Unfortunately Sony designers seem pretty whacko from the F55 down - not really making tools for work. My expectations are low.. there will be a critical error in design - Ill wager that!

They could be going full cinema. No NDs, ultra high frame rates, 12 bit RAW internal recording, a real super low light monster to compete with the URSA/mini. From a business stand point they don't need another camcorder. They need a mid level specially cam for filmmakers, the Fs7 will still have all the bells and whistles, good all around tool. But what could fit in between the two is a camera that's still a beast without some of the luxuries, possibly a better build, a little smaller form factor. I'm just guessing, but hats off to Sony for pumping them out. Should be a good one.

My bet is it being Full Frame, but with other limitations. No raw, maybe not 10bit internal and/or XAVC-S, not as high frame rates.
Being the first full frame 4K camcorder (ignoring RED Weapon etc) would make it a "want" item and cause a lot more buzz than just a lesser spec'ed FS7 that's just smaller and cheaper. Full frame would be enough claim to fame so they can limit the other specs and still make it special and sell a boat load. Plus they'd finally have a camcorder to go with the 28-135 lens.

Could be FF with a bunch of limitations, but the FS7 can already do that with a speedbooster. If it is a "teaser" FF, I bet the FS8 or whatever will get the FF sensor in two years.

Yes, but Sony seems pretty dedicated to their new FE lens line and to move towards full frame. A lot of people seems to care about full frame, and by releasing the first proper camcorder with full frame (ignoring the VG900 now) it will cause a lot of buzz and as such makes perfect business sense. It will set it apart and make it unique.
And for lenses like the 28-135, if you can easily switch between crop mode and full frame, it gives the lens even more versatility.
Even if a lot of people don't care about Sony's e-mount lenses, Sony obviously do ;)

They're using phrases like "groundbreaking", "A new way of seeing", and the hashtag is #nolimits. Setting aside the advertising hyperbole, there must be a clue in there somewhere, though I'm not sure what it is. Maybe high frame rates and high sensitivity?

in the picture it looks kinda like an FS7 but with a viewfinder where the connections for the extension module goes. Maybe they're spinning further on the Camera Varité theme? And that's the "new way of seeing" combined with low light of A7s?
