C100: New C100 Coming down the line?

Me too. I'm in a weird position where I'd be happy with the mark 2 but then again I want to see what the mark 3 offers and if the pricing falls on the 2.

Still no word of the C100 mark iii, im a little bummed!
The original source was of dubious nature. The problem isn't, obviously, of "if" but of "when". In 2016, Canon released a 4K enabled 1DXII and 5D MKIV. They can't be expected to cannibalize their own lines so quickly. A NAB'17 introduction and fall'2017 appearance would seem to be a more suitable schedule.

That is literally one year from now...way too long, lol. The C100 Mark III should have shipped yesterday.

Freddie Mercury - "I want it all and I want it now" (I could insert the video link but I don't feel like it)

My hunch is that the accurately disseminated rumors will be everywhere by March, the actual announcement just prior to the NAB in early April, the full presentation at the NAB'17 itself and a traditional Canon shipment date of September. September can be classified as "fall" (it is actually so in most countries ... by November, they may have a foot of snow on the ground, making November a winter month .. in countries where winter lasts half a year ... and I used to live in one of those countries too).

PS. My hunches have been wrong before. Where's that new Sony Cine Alta lineup? Four years and counting.

Hasn't it been like 2 years?
Yeah. I'd prefer a three year cycle as it makes it easier to make a profit off of. Longer than three years and the camera tends to become outdated.

C100 Mark II isn't outdated yet for most of my work, as evidenced by many of my clients choosing it over my (obviously higher rate) C300 Mark II package.

Eh, I'm waiting for the true 4K Arri Amira update in perhaps a year or two. :)

I'm still not convinced of the C700.

I believe the Sony F55 was $34,900 when it first came out, and now sells for $28,990.00 four years later. Talk about retaining its value! Exciting camera for owner/ops who actually want to profit off of their investments instead of buying a new camera every two years, while selling their old ones at less than half of what they bought them for.

On the other hand, if one is a hobbyist, or a professional looking to upgrade from a cheaper camera, then seeing expensive cameras go down in price, or get replaced is more exciting since you have no investment to loose money on and nothing all that expensive to replace.

The only thing I could desire from my MKII is 4K recording. I've been using the C100 MKI for years now and recently got a MKII. Great investment, but I don't know that I want to feel pressured to upgrade anytime soon with a new release. I would probably go through the next wedding season on my current cameras and then go 4K the next year if that is what the MKIII brings to the table.

It's 2017 now...and if you're going to buy a camera even over $10K, you better absolutely love it.

As been pointed out to me on Sony related threads, F55 has had a ton of updates since its release. What I assume happened was that the camera had a lot of spare processing power and could accommodate various improvements. Sony also recently released an updated "Codex type" external recorder for it.

But I still say that F65 in the F55 body for the F5 price is in the cards.

Funny you mention $10k. That is pretty much my future proofing cutoff budget. I generally buy cameras under $10k. The last expensive camera I bought was a Sony BVW400 Betacam and even then, back in the day, as soon as the DSR500 DVCAMs were out, the BVW400 was used less and less and we began renting the DSR500 and shooting DVCAM. To me, at least if you buy an under $10k camera, it's easy to make the $10k in client fees back fairly quickly. So when your camera is quickly devalued, as my C100 MKI has, you really aren't out tremendous sums of money. If I had bought a C300 MKI at it's intro or a RED, I would be pretty bummed at how much value my camera had lost, even if I had already paid it off from camera fees and or rentals.

It still seems to me that if you are a working camera person, spend a few thousand for rental insurance and just rent what you need. If you are working at a medium to high end level, and your clients need that sort of camera package, renting is best. Most of my work is BTS/EPK/Documentary style so I generally don't need an Amira or RED, larger cameras are more of a detriment in much of my work but for those occasional projects I shoot that require an Alexa or an F55, makes a lot more sense to rent. If the C300 MKII drops to $10k around NAB, I will buy it though. I can probably charge my clients $500.00 - $600.00 per day for the C300 MKII package and at that rate, I can pay it off pretty quickly. I am starting to get requests for 4K so my C100 MKI'as days are limited.

That will be C300 MKIII.

C100MKIII is likely to be bereft of the high end - or any - features. Dual-Pixel AF, XF 305 Mbps codec, XLR's and that's about it. $5,000 price tag.

I think canon will surprise us this time with a more well rounded camera but I know a bit was far fetched

I still shoot with the c100 mark1 :) amazing camera for 1800$, jump from a 5dmk3 and never go back to dslr video. Best move i made.
Still blow me away those little file sizes of that great sensor in avchd. I grade some 100mbs codec files from others caneres with less quality and grading latitud than the 28mbs avchd of the c100
I was in the rust for the fs7 or fs5...but came on, those greens and pink flesh tones are just a joking.
People still willing to pay 1400$/2000for a a6300/6500 that overheat and shuts of...no NDs and a codec and LOG pprofile that sucks to grade.

My clients love the image of the c100.
And i still can do some 60p slowmotion with the 60i in the premiere
For just 1800$....hehehe
Love arrive home and just have 16gb of one full day of masters :)
