IMPORTANT: Server and software upgrade

I was the one who told the admin (Jason?) many years ago, to turn on voting. (The icon was there, but it kept throwing an error because the module was actually deactivated.) So Jason was like, all right everybody, you want me to turn this on? And the rest is history. I actually always wondered if things were better off before voting. I saw it cause a lot of dissension. So I'm fine either way.

One small request: can we style hyperlinks to stand out a bit more? Right now they are almost the same color as regular text. Example: here is a link. I'm sorry this theming stuff is any work at all. I thought with the old site, Jason just grabbed a prebuilt theme and installed it.
 
Is it me doing something? On all my computers, logging in seems to take three or four goes - most times it just doesn't log me in, or give an error message, Probably just me.

It did it for me too but now it takes me directly to the forum page ... probably a given browser peculiarity ...

For some reason I can't get dvxuser to load when I'm on my home internet. Or maybe the site has just been down (like this morning)

This has been an unaddressed error that I believe has locked hundreds of people out of the site.

Setups and providers vary, but it seems to have affected some wireless routers that refuse to be cleared and reset and will not connect to the new version of the site. (First mention of it here was post #32 although it's unclear if it was via wireless.)

I've been on a hard wire all last week (no issues) and finally checked today and it works on my WiFi.

Resetting it in every way possible previously didn't work so either the router finally adjusted and refreshed itself after using the hard connection for a few days, or something was fixed on the other end.

If it doesn't work for you today, try using a hard connection for a few days, if possible.
 
Personally, none of that was an immediate remedy for me, and I don't know how long any correct fix took to register (if it indeed was on my end).

Meaning...maybe at some point last Wednesday/Thursday the final way I did it finally worked after some time (maybe 20 minutes later or a few hours later), but when it didn't work within 5-10 minutes I gave up and didn't try again until today and it finally works (not sure when it started working for me).

But before W/T, I rebooted them in every way and order possible including different order combinations of power and Ethernet cables and computer restarts...and the site would not load via WiFi. 4 different browsers.

But it loaded via hard wire and on my phone (cell service) on that Sunday night it was back up and running.

(And when I switched the phone to WiFi it would not load.)
 
The site will not load at home. I cleared cookies and reset my router/modem. No dice. It will load on my cell network and at work, so something's wrong....

If you haven't already, try a cable from the modem, not the router (since that won't work if your router is having issues).

That would of course affect anyone else's wireless connection in your area but I would try it to at least test it.
 
I discovered that while the screen suggests you are NOT logged in after you do it, you are! It on,y changes to show you’re in when you go to a new page. When you successfully log in the page doesn’t reload. This is on macs, pads and pcs.

That isn't accurate.

And there appears to be a 30-60 minute delay with any updates it makes.

The accurate method only works when you're logged out and you choose "Today's Posts".

Here is a screen shot of both:

Left side: "New Topics"
Right side: "Today's Posts"

"New Topics" doesn't match what's happening in real time. And "Latest Activity" isn't user-friendly.

I'm logged in on one browser and logged out on another just to be able to follow along by looking at "Today's Posts" on the logged out page.

Note that Today's Posts shows everything. After you read a post or post to a thread, New Activity suppresses those threads. I'm not sure when they show up again. Presumably if someone posts something 'New'.

I don't see how wifi versus hardwired is a site admin issue. Someone much smarter than me will have to explain how a site's connectivity is determined by if a user is on wifi versus hardwired.
