HPX170 Verdict?

Cool! I was told I would receive a shipping label, but haven't seen it yet. Glad you already got yours.

170 users consider yourself lucky. i thought when jan said it was part of the "shock mount" design, that would be the end of it.

i, like many others, experienced the misaligned ccd block issue on the 200. the story from panasonic on that one was that it was still "within design tolerances". no fix.

so be thankful they owned up to this one and are helping you out...

Dan, that has to be one of the best well written articles I've read on these cameras. Amazing man... that must of taken some time!

Hi Steve:

From the first letter to first draft took me three long days including photography. It's the corrections and revisions that take a lot of time! ;-) Some very nice people also helped in proofing it and offering suggestions.

Glad you found it useful, spread the word, I want Ken to get some good notice for this one.

Best,

Dan

Dan, I agree with Stevet; fantastic article on the evolution of the DVX/HVX/HPX family of cams. Very enjoyable read, many thanks for taking the time to write it...

Thanks guys, I am so glad that you liked it. That means a lot coming from fellow DVXers, both of whom REALLY know this stuff.

Dan

Dan,

I didn't know you were the one that wote the excellent articel on shooting a tv pilot for a network with the hvx (I just put two and two together). I read that article about 30 times a couple years ago, loved it!

Hi Chip:

Yes, that was me. I think a lot of people may not believe that I have shot about four or five thousand 8 and 16GB P2 cards worth of material since early 2006 with the HVX, it sounds like an exaggeration but when you shoot three and four camera shoots, ten to twelve hours a day for a few years, it adds up.

Glad you found the articles helpful. I have also been writing quite a bit this year for www.hdvideopro.com magazine. I enjoy writing, but not as much as production.

Take care,

Dan

Have you convinced Ken to buy a HPX170?

We haven't specifically discussed it but I think he is teetering on the edge of getting one ;-) I have been asking him for years why he doesn't own a video camera. He is definitely much more of a post guy although his photography proves he has a great eye.

Take care,

Dan

it's interesting to me that B&H is still not allowing reviews & comments from end users on their website. I have tried submitting twice. Of must not be in their best interest in terms of sales as they must be in "damage control" mode as are everyone else who are selling this thing.

Maybe it's because they aren't selling any. I was there today and they don't have a single unit on the showroom floor. I went to compare it with the Sony and was told by the salesman "Panasonic has asked us not to put the 170 out, they want to sell the 200a's first. If the 170 is on display, no one will buy the 200As."

No joke! I'm so glad I drove in to take a look at it and they aren't displaying it. Salesman didn't want to discuss whether the ones they have in stock are wobble-free.
