"Flip" on DVD - Official Thread <DVD AVAILABLE>

Thank you Arielman, the DVD will be going out first thing tomorrow morning! Be sure to tell everyone here what you think of it once you get a chance to watch it. ;)

Me and Carleton have just finished improving the checkout section of the website, so you should have no problems going through the process.

If you attempt to buy something at Google Checkout, and your country is for some reason not listed, please let us know.

Cheers!

Just finally got around to making a trailer highlighting the features on the DVD. It's short and sweet and it should give a little more insight into the DVD and it's features. Just a reminder to all DVXusers, shipping is still free, but the DVD is picking up enough popularity that I won't be offering free shipping much longer. =) The DVD's trailer can be viewed here:

It's clear that a lot of time and effort went into the project. The case and cover alone are pretty dang slick.

I've watched much of the special features section (not all). The featurettes are one of my favorite parts.

This one is worth picking up, and I'm glad I did, even though I wasn't sharp enough to get free shipping (I was in so much of a hurry to order that I didn't even notice the opportunity). There's so much valuable stuff packed into the DVD that it doesn't bother me at all that I didn't get any kind of discount. Totally worth it. Received it lickity-split, much faster than expected.

As a Las Vegas native, it was interesting to me to pick out some of the details.

Loved the story and can't wait to see Carleton's next project!

Thanks for the kind words John. I've been getting compliments on the package a lot, so I'd like to suggest to anyone who is going to be getting a DVD replicated or duplicated professionaly, use clear cases. By using a clear case, you effectivley double the available space for graphics and text on the cover box (since the inside of the insert is noq visible too). I'm glad to hear the featurettes were enjoyed as well. Rest assured, I am working on a new project, and as soon as more things are set, I'll be posting my experiences on it. (HINT- It's multi-multi-media!)

Thanks Owen, it went out today. Expect it on Wednesday (with Sunday and Monday being "no-mail" days.) Thanks again, Carleton.

My problem now is I've lent Flip to my friend and he's so engrossed watching the BTS stuff that he won't give it back!

Just a quick announcement, I recently searched for a PSD of festival laurels and found... nothing. I did however procure a very handy JPEG from Sonnyboo's website. After an hour or so of using the polygonal lasso tool, I created an isolated laurel wreath with modifiable text in the correct font. I have posted it to my User Name upload center, and it's available for download by clicking the image:

It's a PSD, saved in greyscale. You can just invert the colors if you need to have a white version. Enjoy!

Carleton - seriously this rocks man!!

You'd think they'd have easily useable laurels in google image searches, but that isn't the case.

This is a godsend for every filmmaker that gets into a fest!! Great Work!!!

Just a quick update:

Flip had it's world premiere at the Dam Short Film Festival in Boulder, NV last Thursday. It went very well and there was a Q&A session afterwards. As an added bonus, I got to meet a few fellow DVXuser members, including John Labonney. All in all, it was a great experience. The town of Boulder is a small community, and as such, the festival was like being in a really tight knit group of filmmakers. I will definitley be going next year! I will be updating this post as more festivals occur.

I recently had the priviledge of getting my hands on a copy of Flip(Carleton and I did a dvd swap).

I must admit my first thought that came to mind was the fact that Flip is by far the most asthetically pleasing dvd I think i've ever seen, and that was just literally taking it out of the box! This guy has a future in design for sure! I almost think the price of the dvd is worth it just for the case.

As for the content... I am personally not a fan of buying short films, but Carleton jammed so much extra stuff on the dvd, one could seemingly view this dvd for days. Plus there is another short on the dvd too, thus making it a better buy imo. As a dvd collector myself, I admire the amount of work put in to make this a dvd worth owning.

As for the film "Flip" itself... not too shabby. I liked it's simplistic nature contrasting with the craziness of Las Vegas. I liked it's subtle humour and relaxed performances(esp. the lead guy, he's very natural). I liked the dolly and crane moves, and the fact they went all out and used the m2. (i actually liked the test footage I saw in the doc better than in the movie - it looked really gritty 16mill like).

I must say the most impressive thing to me is that you guys were able to pull off shooting a movie in Vegas guerrila style. I maybe could have shot for half a day before saying screw it and go gamble and drink.

Movie - 6/10
DVD Content - 8.5/10
DVD Design - 12/10

Kudos to you Carelton on an impressive first dvd. I look forward to your future films and dvds!!

Thanks a bunch Staven. We recently got several online reviews from media sites as well. I'll update this as more become available online.

Flip DVD review on Filmthreat

Flip DVD review on The Spinning Image

These reviews, and the reviews written by the DVXusers in this thread, should give people enough information to make the leap on spending their hard-earned $15. I really appreciate all the DVXuser support I have received with the DVD sales. Thanks again everybody!

What about us Canucks?

What about us Canucks?

Somewhat of a thread resurrection here but I hope you can help me out Karl151K.

I was going to order a copy of the DVD but the secure checkout tells me that "Component Pictures does not ship to Canada."

What's a poor Canuck to do?

I want to share some cash love with you fellas in exchange for a DVD of "Flip."

How do we go about making this happen?
