GH2 - solutions for the band problem...

I was too curious and gave it a quick shot. Its there, no doubt. But the light was really very, very bad, all underexposed and that dark background! Who would ever shoot this way? But OK, its Panasonics turn now...

What ISO was this shot at if you don't mind me asking? (Edit) Never mind. ISO 3200 shown on the vimeo page.

I got my Gh2 yesterday. and mine also had horizontal banding visible starting at iso 800. I did a "Pixel Refresh" and "Sensor Cleaning" and this cleared up all banding issues all the way up to 3200....

Seriously?

It's strange but when I pixel refresh my GH1 I would SWEAR that the banding is much worse. given a couple hours of being on, the banding goes back down to normal levels..

Maybe they are related somehow?

Wow, that would be great. Did you test it several times? Are there any downsides doing a "pixel refresh"? Can I do it as often as I want?

+1 - yea let us enjoy your fruits of labor and explain the exact stages of procedure, and also if there are any downsides, thanks.

Normally, pixel refresh runs a little program where the cam takes a picture and looks for stuck pixels. It can then remap them, the exact process is unknown, I believe--maybe someone here knows--but generally some sort of interpolation from adjacent pixels is thought to be the solution. It remains to be seen whether this works in 1:1 mode. On my other camcorders, I have to send the cam back to the factory to fix stuck pixels, so this is a good thing, when it works.

Do all the gh2 has banding issue or only some. I bought my camera and i can see that i have it aswell. I am asking this because i can return my camera and buy another one, try my chance.
Thanks

i think 90% have it to different degrees, or maybe all of them.

Wont do any harm to try.

Ummm...so far mine doesn't.... :)

Well, a tiny bit at 3200 in a totally dark room when noise is already so bad I would never use the shot.

To me what the bands look like are areas where the noise is "stuck" and not moving as fast...

try to upload a very underexposed 3200 shot please..

Scratch that. Normal room lighting and underexposer doesn't give me the banding issue. When I go in a pitch dark room and use the iPhone led I get the banding.

I'll post a test when I get back home tomorrow.
