GH2 - solutions for the band problem...

No doubt, that would be the best way. But what, if they do not? Is it fixable by a software update? Or is it a sensor fault?

I think this banding issue isn't a showstopper for purchasing GH2. Buy now. Wait for firmware update. If it's hardware issue, send it over to Panny and they will fix it or send a new one. I'm gonna order it this weekend.

Did they ever fix the banding on the GH1? I'll be waiting for that firmware update. Fool me once...

Is it pronounced at all shutters? Something that was on the GH1? IT's a PITA but if enough people comment then maybe addressed. What causes this?

Well... think about this case. Panny might fix the issue and start building the next production batches with new firmware. Same old story...

My first attempt to get rid of the bands with masking. Perhaps it could be a first solution? What do you think? Anyone another idea?

Have you examined the band in other conditions, like when the whole of the frame isn't underexposed quite badly? And not areas of mid tones? I just can't help but keep thinking that under these scenarios, this may just be a 'characteristic', and the amount of times it rears it's head in scenes that you shoot properly are going to be quite uncommon. Unless I'm making a documentary about people that watch paint dry.

I had this also once.
It was a green line.
It moved up and down when you changed the shutter speed.
See on the picture.

Horizontal-line.jpg

I found out for me, that it happened above a shutter speed of a 50th (I have PAL)
It happened in 1080/50i, CMM, manual mode.

As soon as I went on 50th, it was gone.
Now, I cannot reproduce it any more.

No more Problem

Interesting thing is in that clip, while that one line is pronounced, I see more lines as well they are just much more subtle. What kind of light is being used in that scene? To me it would seem that when the shutter speed is set to anything faster than the refresh rate of the lights, there is other banding happening as well (which seems to be a different problem I'd guess).

I think this was exaclty the thing in my example.

Burn in, no.
It only happened once in a 30 second clip.

VERTICAL BANDING! GH1!

HORIZONTAL BANDING! GH2!

CAN WE PLAY KNOTS & CROSSES ON THE GH3? (just kidding)

Yeah, the subtle ones look like light frequency issues, however, that one pronounced band is VERY strange. The fact that it moves to me makes it still seem like some sort of light dependent effect. What happens when you pan the camera?

It stays where it was. Only changing the shutter speed moved the green band up and down.

But as i said before. I cannot reproduce it any more.
