GH-1 now $950!

Got mine from J&R yesterday. V1.2. I have no plans to hack at this point, but it's good to know it's probably hackable.

do yourself a favor....make it a GH13- BIG difference, and there are plenty of stable settings at this point to where you can be a bit conservative in your settings in still yeild really nice results.

Don't get me wrong- the GH1 is nice out of the box--but a whole different animal with a 3 on the end:thumbsup:

I'm tempted, but I need to do some research. I haven't really followed the GH13 details closely, so I need to educate myself on the pros/cons. I've used a GH1 at work and/or borrowed a friend's for almost a year and love it. But I recently borrowed a friend's hacked GH1 and had a problem with it. The first night it was great. The next night I put in a card that had been formatted in an HMC-150 and before I could re-format the camera locked up. Not sure if that's hack-related, but it gave me a scare. Also, does running the Ptool void your warranty? Things I need to learn more about.

Sure- completely understandable, definitely educate yourself on the subject, lots of nuances for sure. But Once you wrap your head around the do's and don't's there are some pretty stable settings that will surprise and satisfy the eye!:Drogar-Dum(DBG):

There are plenty of stickies here to get you going in the right direction-

warranty?? I'm sure there Panny would have an issue if the camera was 'altered' in some way. So, I wouldn't bet on them honoring anything there, but I could be wrong?? That being said, you can always revert back to the factory firmware, but it will actually be set at a different version number- so I'm sure that would tip someone off.

Vitally, (Tester13), has done a phenominal job, (as have others!), at clearly identifying low risk and high risk updates-- it's a heck of a read, so cozy up with a warm cup o' joe for the next couple nights and get yourself up to speed, you won't be disappointed!

What ? I thought that there was an option in Ptool making the hacked firmware appear as version 0.0 in order to be able to install a legit firmware later on, without raising suspicion. Wouldn't it then show whatever version of the legit firmware ?

Alignment1, factory firmware is factory firmware --> everything, including body version (and internal version #) becomes "original". Body displays version "0.0" when firmware patched with "Prevent Version Compare" is loaded. When you load original firmware in this state the version that will be displayed after is that of original firmware.

:) Good to know!! You know...I know I've heard that thrown around, but wasn't quite clear--thanks for clearing that up:thumbup:. Honestly, I think, I'm still on Ptool 1.37, so I might be behind a bit.

Sale was the last few Saturdays. Just checked and it's not on sale today. Just checked the J&R site and the GH1 camera isn't listed, just some accessories. They may have sold out. B&H still has some for $1180. No telling if they'll be hackable though.

No way to really know until someone gets one. Might even be able to call and check. Probably returnable within 30-days, too.
