GH-1 now $950!

They might be and then maybe not. There are probably some "good" ones somewhere on a dealer's shelve. Only one way to know for sure. Be a bummer not getting one (make sure you can return it) and finding out that someone else got one that was hackable.

As the subject of this thread says, the GH1's were $950 a little over a month ago and a lot of people thought about and rationalized it, and then had remorse that they didn't get one while sale was on. I'd check serials, ask, etc. and see what happens.

Just bought one directly from J&R and to my great dismay it's firmware 1.34 all the way...

Just thought I'd post this to help people avoid the problem I just had.

Bummer. That's the first one I've heard about from J&R, too. You keeping it or returning it?

Granted, I liked the camera even before the hack, but now we might as well wait and see what the GH2 brings to the table or look elsewhere.

I'm returning it since I already found a (supposedly) hackable one on Ebay for not much more. My plan was to buy it from J&R and decide if I return it or not when the GH2 was announced later this month. But what with it being unhackable and the GH2 looking more and more distant every day (now I'm hearing it won't be available til December), I'd rather have a fully hacked GH1 right now and shoot some stuff.

(Plus this model is a red one and for some reason that makes me all tingly inside) :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

A RED one?!? I'm tingly for you! I was quite bummed when I saw that in the U.S. we could have any color we wanted, as long as it was black. :Drogar-Mad(DBG):

Looking at the GH1 prices on eBay you might be able to sell yours there at a slight profit, depending on what you paid for it.

It's hard to say what's up with the GH2, or if there even is one coming. When the GH1 came out it was in VERY short supply and even selling for above list price (saw some sell for $2,000 U.S.). Even if a GH2 is announced at Photokina it could be 3-6 months before you can get your hands on one -- assuming you'd want to, depending on what it offers.
